Ever left a game early and regretted it?

I've never, ever left a Footy match involving Hawthorn. Dad instilled the attitude into me at an early age.

5 year old me wanted to leave halfway through a certain match against St.Kilda at Waverley. Dad said "We're not leaving until after the final siren, whatever the score is."

My earliest memory, that game.

Went to a St Kilda-Essendon match a few seasons back, last match for Adam Ramanauskas, pumped em by 100, would have thought seeing such a brave soldier retire along with a few others may have encouraged more Dons fans to stick around, pretty sure some of them would regret not giving Adam the send off he deserved.
Only time I have ever left is where the result is clearly without doubt, back in our glory years at the Dome and relying on public transport I always felt it best to leave a little early so I was not sharing the Bourke Street bridge to Southern Cross with 30,000 other people, many of whom were snails.

my old man was so disillusioned with what he was watching in the 97 prelim he left 10 mins into the last quarter. caught the train back to deer park to my grandparents. me an mum stayed, and obviously watched the miracle take place.

get back about 2 hours later to give him the news that we'd won. he didn't beleive us

Only time recently I've left was v Freo in 2013 when I had some sort of gastric bug and realised I wasn't going to make it through the game without hurling. Left at half time.

I obviously cut a lone and depressing figure walking across Richmond railyards bridge in my Dees scarf because some smartass bloke walked past with a grin and goes 'Leaving already ey?'

To which I replied 'I feel like shit and I'm going to throw up,' which promptly wiped the smile off his face.

Clearly I impressed him with my apparently visceral disgust for another poor Dees performance.

Left a game early once, and only once, and NOT BY CHOICE.

My Dad had had enough. We were getting killed against Carlton and we had driven in. If I had've hadtrain fare he would've been on his own.

I still remind him of it to this day and he is ashamed (when he can remember it - he remembers footy at lot more than anything else at least) but we tend to talk about better games than that one most of the time.

I don't give a shit how bad your team are playing, or how uncommitted you think your boys are being in a bad loss, THEY have to be there till the final siren. If you want to be part of your bloody club then YOU SHOULD TOO.

Go to lots of neutral games and more often than not leave them early simply to beat the crush.

Earliest I've left an Essendon game would've been the West Coast game last year, left early in the third quarter. But that was planned as I was doing something else that night.

Might've ducked out of a few with a minute or two left if it was a big crowd or I was tight for time. And that includes games we were winning and losing comfortably.

Never left a North game early. If you leave any of your team's games early you're soft.
If you're really not enjoying it, why martyr yourself for it?

I remember a game against Collingwood in... was it 2012? The game itself was really stagnant and boring, we were getting beaten fairly comfortably, it was raining, freezing (and night-time) and I was by myself and totally underdressed having come straight from work. At half-time I realised how much I wanted TV, heating and a glass of red.

Different sport I know but what about the Liverpool fan who saved up all his dough to fly to Turkey for the 2005 Champions League final. With Liverpool down 3-0 at half time he cracked the sads and left and missed his clubs greatest ever victory. He does an interview about it on One Night in May.
My brother and i watched this game together, at half time he went to bed, i stayed up, i give him so much shit about it to this day.

They are paid to be there, whilst we pay for the privilege. When you're the purchaser, you don't have an obligation to the club you've paid money to

Nope. Closest thing for me was going on a massive rant when Carlton were down about 40 against Port in the final round of the 2013 finals. Spot up for grabs.

Gave up listening in the second quarter, went for a long walk and came back to find them within a few goals.

Nothing will ever top the Miami fans in the 2013 finals missing out on one of the greatest finals moments ever.

I got into a huff and left Lennys last home game against the Bulldogs last year. Shouldn't have, just for him. However, I will always be tempted to leave if we are getting flogged, it's cold, wet, night time, large crowd, etc.

Different sport, but I went to an Australia Vs New Zealand League test match at Etihad a while ago, we were getting beaten and the Kiwi guys next to me were drunk and becoming more and more abusive, so for that reason we decided to leave before someone got decked. As we were heading down the stairs, the Aussies scored, so we went into the standing room area and watched a great comeback victory by the Aussies. Do not regret at all moving that day.

Not a footy match but I left early in a Test match. It was Aus v Eng at Waca 2007. It was stinking hot, over 40 degrees & I was sitting in the sun all day I was cooked.

It was a good day I saw Hussey & Clarke rack up centuries & England was gone. I decided to head home to watch the last hour or so on TV.

Little did I know that Gilchrist was about to launch an attack on the Poms hitting the fastest ever Australian test century off 57 balls! I was listening to the radio on the bus on the way home and stumbled in the door switched on the tv to see him hit his century!

Went to a Pies Freo game at the MCG. About round 5-6 and neither team had won a game. It was the coldest day in history Max of about 5 degrees and it lived up to expectations. Fog stopped you being able to see the other end of the ground and the wind made me wish I had dressed for the snow not the footy.

Lasted till half time with my Girlfriend ( now wife). So cold that despite what I thought would be our only win for the season went home, into a hot bath and listened to the 2nd half on the radio.

1999 Yes?

I think it was around 1996 Haw vs Dogs at the Western/ Whitten Oval- The Hawks were about 3 goals down on a rainy day late in the last quarter and had only kicked 5 goals all day.
I left (only slightly before the siren) -When i got to the car and turned the radio on- It was a draw! (Darren Pritchard had a chance to win it in the final seconds)
I used to leave Waverly early if we were well up- just to get out of the car park!

My old man was a big one for leaving early and "beating the traffic" out of the MCG or Waverley car parks. As a kid, it used to shit me to tears. Probably because of that, I never leave early (unless I'm a neutral and the game is particularly putrid and boring.) If the Hawks are getting pumped, I like to stick it out, to see who shows a bit of fight or pride in the jumper.

People who leave at the 15 or 20 minute mark of the last quarter are big babies. Take the loss on the chin. Suck it up. Listen to that shitty song and watch the opposition fans rejoice. How you can you truly enjoy the thrill of victory if you don't experience the discomfort of defeat?

Yes
2013 prelim against Geelong. Mum decides she feels sick and can't watch anymore of the game after 15 mins into the last quarter and after many years of misery with Geelong we decide to leave. We leave, the lady at the gate says "do you want to come back in later?", mum says no.
As we are walking towards the car I realise hawthorn are coming back and will probably win. They win and I cry in hysterics the whole way home.

I haven't forgiven her for it and never will
She ruined my life! Haha
Dude- you need a new mum, divorce her or something- that's just not cool
