From that trade, West Coast got Oscar Allen at #21, Liam Ryan at #26 and Jack Petrucelle at #37.

Gold Coast got Brayden Crossley, one of their Academy players

The Eagles f**ked them good with just Liam Ryan alone

The best part is that Scott Clayton, who engineered that shitty trade at GC now works for the Eagles

Its only shit in retrospect. Noone expected WC to win the flag. The majority had them finishing around 12th.

Which always staggered me all season. They have the best bunch of ruckman in the comp as a collective, so losing Nic Nat didn't cripple them, Lycett and Vardy saw off Gawn and Grundy in consecutive weeks, quite handily I might add. They have a dangerous forward line, they missed Kennedy for multiple games this year, that didn't bother them. They have a great back 6, the way they all play down there is something every club should be looking at. Their midfield was the only question mark with Priddis and Sam Mitchell out of there but they always had the quality. Their home ground advantage is the biggest in the comp, how they were written off is staggering. They draft well, recruit well and are damn well coached, I do wish our club was as strong as they are at times.

Wonder if port would do a trade with saints as they dont have a pick after pick 3 till no.57. Trade our pick 9, 21 and 45 for there pick 3. we get a top 5 pick with a chance to get Rankine and saints get some decent middle picks to get Hannerby trade done and still have a high draft pick.

Could maybe also then also trade pick 10 (polec), 27 for Bulldogs pick 6.

Gives us before compo picks pick 3,6 and 46.

think its plausable. we could also look at trading next years 1st and 2nd picks for another 1st rounder.

If we can Somehow end up with Rankine and Rozee its happy days

Pick 3 is worth a lot more than 9, 21 and 45.
You’d want 2 first rounders for it I reckon.

No

Going into a draft we need to replenish our young stocks with just two usable picks would be silly.

We need to absolutely keep those second round picks.

Also we need to keep next years picks.

i tend to agree but be interesting only way to get into the top 5 without giving up wingard and keeping the 2 top 10 picks

It was a horrible trade at the time and in retrospect. Gold Coast are making a habit of giving clubs' enormous leg ups through their desperation and ineptitude. Hope our lads are sitting next to them this trade week.

Not necessarily, with pick 3 they get one very good player. Then have nothing until the 50s 9 27 and 45 they still get a good (top 10 young player) and good player in the 20s plus 45. For a side like StKilda making a lot of list changes 9, 27 and 45 is probably more valuable as they get the top 10 talent and can be more active trade wise with 27 and 45 or go to the draft if they chose.

Wow - that would be some return.
McClure said the word is Luko and Rankine will go to GC at 2 and 3 which I think would be smart by them. If that’s the case I wouldn’t be trying to upgrade our picks and go to the draft with 9&10.

A question for philthy05 Macca19 missionpossible (if you have had the chance to watch many videos yet) or any other draft watchers.

If you were to group the players eg 5 top level, 10 just below that level, 20 at a slightly lower level etc, how would you call it?

Previously the story was the king brothers, and then it was luko and Rozee cause they played a lot of junior sports together. I suspect no one knows.

Everything I’ve seen and read suggests one of the kings would be a stretch at 3, the 2 SA boys aren’t. Hopefully they both go to the GC so we can have a crack at them in 2 years.

It makes sense for the GCS to want clubs to think they are going to select the player that they want prior to the trade period. Just in case they offer overs for the pick as a result.

Trade period starts in a week. Which "lock" is going to slip to mid-draft? A lot of the stories about Brodie Grundy's drop to no. 18 centre about the fact that a minimum of teams need ruckmen and also that teams prefer immediate impact from their round 1 picks. Maybe the King brothers will slide for the same reason? The top expected 5 each year generally go early and most of the top 10 could be gone by 15 but after that it can be a bit of a crapshoot. Players can drop in the draft if a lot of teams are drafting for needs and a good player may not meet those needs. If it was just a case of who is best the predicted order and the actual order would be pretty much the same.
