Its not looking good right now but the Home and away season is all about jostling for positions and keeping players injury free for finals time.

We can still snag 4th spot which will give us a good enough position to snag a flag. We have had a good run with injuries with no crucial players out for the season.

If we can get a fit Barry Hall back, have a complete list to choose from in the finals and get a double chance then who knows.

A couple of injuries to the teams above us top line players and all of a sudden they are not so good.

Go the Swans:thumbsu::)

Yep , I am usually super positive but I reckon bring BBBBH back immediately !!!!

If not this week ,then I reckon at ANZ stadium.... the team runs out through the banner against Cats "we are gunna f u pussies!" to the blaring Cheer cheer the red 'nd da white"

then "der da da d-A! ...the eye of the tiger!!!" and BBBH in gold larmae hooded cloak comes shadow boxing into the stadium!!!!

Knock out 5 Cats ... and then his job is finished!:D:thumbsu:

alternately kick 5 and set up 2... and there will be still a job left to do!

I love your optimism lazy but I think this match gave us a taste of what things will be like if we don't make drastic changes now. Our midfield lacks class, full stop.

It's all up hill from here. We have the hardest draw and I can't see us winning enough games to snag a top 4 position.

Play him at FF out of the square.... dah de dah de hah "there are only 2 Tony Locketts":D

roos tonight has pretty much ruled out hall coming back next week

i think it's fairly clear-cut
if we win enough games to stay in the top four, it probly means we've beaten one of geelong, the dogs or pies
and thus we'd be worthy of the top 4
if we don't win enough games, we won't be top 4 and probly will be rightly consigned to an early exit

as for injuries, i don't think we've been spared
kennelly's not going to be right til next year, malch is battling (although it's still been a remarkable achievement), spida's gone, fosdike has missed the season and the one kid who seems to have got everyone seriously excited, vezspremi, can't get enough game time to have a crack at senior selection

i still think, in spite of the furious disappointment of the past two weeks, there's already a lot of upside to our season

Veszpremi won't have too much of an impact if he's thrown into it now. Being injured for about 4 weeks has dramatically reduced his aerobic capacity which was par AFL standard to begin with - he wouldn't have had played this season even if he hadn't have had been injured. MOD is one we could look towards debuting pretty soon, and bringing Jesse White, Schmidt or Reg in wouldn't go amiss.

Why bring in rookies this late into the season when a loss or win make such a HUGE impact on the teams position on the ladder. Bring in rookies in the first couple of games of a season just to see how they perform against the more experienced players in the competiton. Then later on make the decision of bringing them in later in the season knowing they can perform.

Personally, I believe that we might not be able to squeeze into the top 4 without a seriously physical and mentally fit Barry Hall. If we don't have Barry Hall then it will apply more pressure to our forwards which can only make their performance worse. Take today's performance as an example.

We have to beat Carlton, plain and simple. If we don't, forget the Top 4, we're right back in the battle for a Top 8 position.

And please please Roosy, do not start LRT on Fevola.

if we don't beat carlton, forget top 8... we should start concentrating on tanking

* finals are pointless if we are willing to settle for mediocrity

Thats a bit rough dont you think????
I agree if we dont beat Carlton our top 4 spot is as good as gone but our chances in the top 8 are still there.

Yep. I'm getting sick to death of people telling me that our forward line functions better without him. Sure, it looked great against the teams at the bottom of the ladder but look at the better teams we have played without him: Geelong, North, Bulldogs, Hawks. They're all games where our forward line looked woeful. Hall easily could have made the difference yesterday so I'm still pretty confident we can finish in the top 4 but if we want to win a flag Hall has to be in the team.

Am I the only one who thinks we weren't THAT bad against the hawks yesterday? I thought we looked okay but just didn't have a forward line capable of making the most out of the opportunities. Still plenty to like about the swans.

the dumb skill errors just destroyed any momentum we were possibly building in the latter part of the first quarter and throughout the second
missed targets, turnovers and the number of missed shots
hawthorn made the most of our bumbling and that was that

right now, i still see a rather painful month or so

but i could be wrong

I saw the game from Swans Club and Ed Barlow was " guest commentator" at the end of the 1st 2 quarters.
His comment on missed goal opportunities was they practice kicking at goals ONCE A WEEK.
Those easy missed goals in the 1st half stopped any scoreboard pressure on the Hawks. If you watch carefully the run in and technique from Buchanan and Playfair vary at each shot. I would have thought these skills would be honed with practice on a daily basis like a pro golfer. Maybe they should spend less times on meetings and couches and more time practicing??

"once a week"???
fck me
i'd hope they'd all be supplementing that like kids do
turn up an hour early, or hang round after, and just spend some time taking shots, mucking around too just to keep it fun
but practising shots ... if they did a bit more of that schoolboy sorta stuff, and enjoying it, they might look a little less constipated and scared kicking for goal in games
a few of our blokes yesterday (and earlier this season) have lined up kicks at goal looking like they'd rather be anywhere else than playing footy
hank, amon and d jolly, for starters

The problem is that most of these offenders in front of goal would probably have no trouble slotting the same shots 9 times out of 10 during practice. Get them on the park in front of 50,000 people though and for whatever reason their normal technique is abandoned. There are certain players that seem to be more affected by the pressure than others.

Sorry MalceskiFan I was drowning my sorrows last night and that comment was very tongue in cheek!

No good if BBBH really has got mental problems so needs more time to let the message sink in!

Yes I thought they were that bad! Had Franklin and Roughhead kicked straight game over by half time! Of course I cheered and hoped they could bridge the gap! they fought bravely

Swans forward line has not worked properly for 2 years. But they simply don't get it in there quick or direct enough. When they stage "comebacks" they tend to just thump it forward and hope with reasonable success.

Unless they can find a way of attacking and putting scoreboard pressure and burying a few sides .... they are wasting their time! and making up the numbers!
