It all makes sense now... I was wondering why Horse wasn't at the draft and Cox was there making his input known
Good luck to Coxy though
Horse has left the club in good shape. Sure he might have fell at the last hurdle several times after there 2012 win (we won't enter into the 2016 umpiring debacle) but the bloke should be remembered as a swans great. Glad he is still aligned to the club in a non coaching role. He deserves it

The part of that press conference is was most pleased to hear was the part where coxy said he'd do a couple of things different to horse. Sounds like he has his own ideas of the way the game is progressing and what he wants to do with the team structure and game plan.

I know I said previously I wouldn't buy into how well the team was going next season but this has renewed a bit of faith and excitement into next season for me.

I was disappointed in that bit, because he said he'd tweak some things, but otherwise sounded like everything was fine and we think we're successful.

I hope it was purely to keep the tone light for Horse's last day.

What else is he going to say "Nah Horse has been a terrible Senior Coach I'm going to rip everything up"?

I think Cox's first and most important objective, even before some of the tactical areas for improvement like the midfield, forward structures etc., is to fix the culture of this team. Bring back accountability and the concept of team-first footy. Fixing these things alone will set Cox up for a strong start. God knows the talent is already there.

All of those things take time. No silver bullets or instant fixes. The tactics and structures are easiest. The accountability requires buy-in which takes time. Perhaps as part of the GF player review? Still need two new assistants and need their buy-in too.

Cox didn't need to come out and say anything negative about Horse.

Given it was the most likely topic any new coach addresses (what will be different) and how recent seasons have ended, he could have said something like:

"We believe we've played some very good footy in recent years, credit to Horse, but whether it was with Horse next year or myself, we as a club have some things to address to make sure we are prepared to achieve the ultimate success."

Even ignoring that, it is a farewell presser after all, I'm still not sure how anyone watched it, previously were pessimistic, but changed their mind, and are now more positive that we're going to address the problems we have. At best it told us nothing.

Cox has the best list as his disposal that i can recall as a Swans coach.
I reckon 2014 was a better list - but not by far. The only place I'd argue it was clearly weaker was first ruck (Pyke vs Grundy) - because Grundy can contribute more around the ground. But even then, that almost underplays just how damn good Pyke was as a ruckman at that point too, who could kick goals too.

But the list is very good in general terms - Cox has a lot to work with. Certainly on par with the 2010 list handed over to Longmire, but arguably a bit in front of that from a pure talent point of view.

All it needs now is to get the mentality right, and some tactical tweaks to fully make use of our strengths, and away we go.

Anyone looking for that at a farewell presser is looking well and truly in the wrong place.

We are successful although you may not see it that way (we could easily miss finals and be middle of the road). Maybe it only needs a tweak and a new voice shouting at them.

Players and coaches didn’t perform on grand final day again and the senior coach has gone. No excuses it’s up to the players now. They are good enough in the home and away season.

Be interesting if he shakes up the leadership group
