I understand that. But as I stated, concussions can have delayed symptoms. The studies in past NFL players are very worrying.
I hope he's fine, he's been in great form and we look to be on a great run, so his spot in the team is as important as ever with the injury we already have to Reef.

It was nothing, just a clip on the ear that drew blood.

I think he got lucky. He got hit flush in the ear. It's not a big head jolting point.

I'm a very worried for his selection for ANZAC day. I understand he carried off Billy at the end of the game, but concussions don't always present straight away. The Justin Koschitzke interview always comes to my mind.

I really hope he is OK, but after Brayshaw, Murphy and Carmichael, it scares me to think about losing Darcy in the same fashion!
Given the size of his head, I’m more worried about Howie’s knee.
Are there any updates on that?
PS: Even Darcy acknowledges the size of his melon and the ridicule he gets for it.

Concussions and CTE, despite the name of the Will Smith movie, are not the same and should not be lumped into the same basket. CTE is largely believed to be caused by a high frequency of sub-concussive traumas.

Post-concussive syndrome (PCS) is what Murphy, Picken, Frost etc. suffer from and it differs from the condition affecting NFL players.

I’ve had vertigo from a bad fall at about Darcy’s age and now I’m hoping that his experience of it will be vastly different from mine. Mine was quite debilitating and any form of athletic pursuit would have been out of the question for a long time.
Unless his case is relatively trivial the club is going to have to be really careful and patient with his recovery. Until further information we can’t assume it is going to be short-term. Please footy gods, prove me wrong on this one.

Yeah the lack of discussion over this injury seems to be strange

Inner ear is not a spot u want an injury. Blood coming from his ear looked very concerning but hopefully it's minor

I have had it too. Mine was triggered from recurrent ear infections, but specifically a trip to the Gold Coast and staying on a high floor of a hotel whilst having an ear infection.

The flight in a pressurised cabin started it and then using a lift over and over set it in.

I was incredibly nauseous (though not vomiting, I felt like I needed to). I also was so incredibly dizzy. It felt like the floor beneath me was dipping and swaying.

Thankfully it was short lived once the ear infection cleared.

I suspect the club is being coy on it but it is a concussion symptom for Darcy. I know Fly said he’s not concussed but he may be lying on this.
Unfortunately I have to agree with you on this. My view is coloured by the fact that the symptoms were relatively serious in the short term and revisited me in lesser form off and on for years. With luck Darcy has dodged that level of impact, but I still don’t expect to see him for a few weeks at least.

Inner ear stuff can be very tricky - agree - let's hope it's only a one week precaution

Congrats, I was wrong.

Still suspect it’s nothing in the grand scheme of things.

I’d select TJ off the back of his excellent game last start.

Copped a knee to the ear, was bleeding from the ear and now there's an inner ear issue and he's seeing a specialist for it.

Doesn't sound like nothing, hopefully he only misses 1 week.

we can still win without him could be the break he's needed for a year and a half anyway to start getting confidence marking again been in some solid form recently though

Hope you’re right, but why do you suspect it’s nothing in the grand scheme of things?

I don't think having vertigo is going to give him the confidence to start taking pack marks

not that more so he never really got time back to his best after the Geelong hamstring strain in 2023 then had wrist surgery which ruined his 2024 where he was clearly playing rubbish footy and couldn't mark to save himself or would do double handed spoils

Recovery from vertigo is pretty variable. When it’s at its worst it ****ing sucks and can linger. By virtue of Darcy doing media etc. for ANZAC Day I can tell it’s not at that end of the spectrum. When I had it, I had to crawl on hands and knees to get from one room to the next.

He’ll have seen a neuro specialist, been given medications like Serc and Stemetil to dampen the symptoms, and some exercises to do and see how he goes.

He likely had some swelling from the blow to his head which caused an increase in pressure around the ear, and precipitated the symptoms. Fingers crossed that as the swelling subsides the symptoms go with it.

Yep given he was able to do a long day of media work yesterday, I'm hoping it's on the milder side. My mother in law had it a few weeks ago and she couldn't stand up at all.
