I'll stop being silly for a moment; when you get Kreuzer back, he obviously plays.

You've got numerous ruck options, but obviously can't play them all.

So if Jacobs wants to leave, and you guys refuse to trade him (which could see him walk, but would hate to see that), then which of your ruckman aren't going to get a game - and do you rate them higher/lower than Jacobs (consider Hampson was apparently a much better player/prospect than Tippett 12 months ago), and would you be willing to trade them?

Ruckmen in order of performance:

1.Kreuzer
2.Jacobs (just)
3. Warnock
4. Hampson

In order of potential
1. Kreuzer
2. Hampson
3. Warnock
4. Jacobs

However as it will take years for Hampson to reach his potential. My preference for next year is:

1. Kreuzer
2. Warnock
3. Jacobs
4. Hampson

Best ruck duo (and I think many agree) would be a Kreuzer/Warnock combo.

The issue is Kreuzer is coming back from a knee reco and the club may not want to give him much time in the ruck (at least in the earlier stages of 2010).

There is a possibility that Jacobs/Warnock could be the ruck combo with Kreuzer playing as a forward.

Hampson is the 4th ruck, BUT I highly doubt the club will be willing to trade him after they knocked back I think pick 9(?) from Port last year.

So in other words I don't think the club wants to trade any of them at this point in time. However Jacobs deserves to be playing every week and whether or not that will occur at Carlton in 2010 I would say is unlikely.

In regards to games, Hampson would probably get the least amount of all four. But as seen this year, Carlton was willing to give all four a run at various stages of the season.

There will be plenty of competition for Jacobs imo. It will only benefit the club's position. The only thing that would hamper this is if he nominated a specific club.

Warnock was excellent and out perform Jacobs however Jacobs was really good. Kreuzer and Warnock will be number 1 and 2 ruckmen next year. Hampson is looking at being number 4 if all are retained. It would be good to get something for one of them. It would be good to trade Hampson but clubs will want Jacobs.

In regards to if we'd prefer to keep Hampson or Jacobs in a trade, it doesn't always mean we'd get too keep the one we prefer. We may prefer to trade Hampson as we rate Jacobs above him, yet the club we want to trade with may insist upon Jacobs as part of any trade. Sometimes you have to give up a more important piece in order to obtain the item that you covet most.

At the end of the day Jacobs is too good to be playing in the VFL. The club will need to weigh up if they are going to play 3 ruckman permanently next year. The only way that is going to happen is if they decide to develop Kreuzer as a CHF.

I don't think this is likely.

Hampson still has development to come and is raw. I think it's more realistic for him to expect to play some games in the VFL and some in the AFL. He's probably a good fit to backup the Kreuz/Warnock combo.

Club hinted recently, and I concur, that ideally it is Warnock and Jacobs as rucks with Kruezer fwd, and Hammer is the project player who could do both eventually

Jacobs' final against Sydney was top shelf, and he dominated in the VFL before that, so I think CFC should argue he is potentially top shelf material in the ruck, and therefore should be worth a great deal in a trade

Club let him play a final, so I think he won't burn the club in a deal

Club said 1-2 weeks ago Kruezer to go fwd in future

Did you see him take some nice grabs across CHF in a few games before he got injured, I think Hawks game he started to really look strong at CHF

Oh, I'd be more than happy with that. Having Kreuzer and Hendo up forward developing together, has the potential to be massive in future.

But the club will need to convince Jacobs that this is the stance that they're taking from here on in if he is to stay imo.

Just put yourself in his shoes. If you're easily good enough to be playing 22 games at any other competitive AFL club, why would you stay at a club where you're likely to be playing 3rd string and in the VFL.

The club needs to convince Jacobs that he is a certain 22 starter in 2011 and beyond.

Yup agree totally, that is the challenge but really he was so good in the final (he hammered an All Oz candidate in Mummy) I think the proof is in the pudding and they will have to play all 3 of Kruez, Warnock and Jacobs in 2010.

B Joseph, Jamison, Armfield
HB Bower, Waite, Russell
C Simpson, Gibbs, Lucas
FOLL Warnock, Judd, Murphy
HF Yarran, Kruezer, Knights (for Walker + our 3rd rounder )
F Garlett, Henderson, Betts

INT Jacobs, McLean, Grigg, etc etc

Of course the real litmus test will be when AFL make a call on interchanges, this will dictate what we do re rucks

Playing three ruckman will be a difficult task IMO.

Personally I am unsure whether Kreuzer will be coming back into the side come round 1. He needs to get his body right and come back in his own time. No use in him coming back unsure of his knee (thinking of Waite here).

So therefore Jacobs will be assured of a game for the first half of next season. The second half is a different question. If the 22 lines up with three ruckman I'd expect it to look like this:

B: Joseph Jamison Russell
HB: Armfield Bower Lucas
C: Simpson Grigg Murphy
HF: Scotland Waite Gartlett
F: Betts Henderson Kreuzer
R: Warnock Judd Gibbs
I/C: Jacobs, Robinson/Davies/Walker/White/Yarran/Mclean/Johnson/Houlihan

Issue is some very decent flankers/midfielders are pushed out by the extra ruckman.

IF Warnock/Kreuzer can play like an extra midfielder and float forward and Jacobs improves his endurance significantly it can work. Big IF though.

I've been throwing around crazy trades all day but I this is what I really want to happen.
Tell big Sauce he is number 1 ruck as long as his form deserves it. Kreuzer can chill forward next year to ease back in the team.
