aussie band. formed in melbourne.
fronted by a kiwi, yes, but two of the guys were/are aussie. heck, in the current lineup there's an aussie, a kiwi and two yanks. does that make it an american band?

they're from nz. What is it with ____ing aussies claiming stuff blatantly from nz, australian. Such an annoying habbit i've noticed.

this is not a case of stealing from NZ as far as i see it. sure the finns are kiwis, but nick seymour and paul hester are aussie, and mark hart and matt sherrod are yanks. the band itself was formed in melbourne. so why exactly is it a kiwi band? haven't figured out your reasons yet... if you say it's a kiwi band cos neil finn is the frontman/singer, does that means INXS is a canadian band?

Nah there just shit.... Now that is

On topic they are a mixture of nationalities but the only one that matters is a kiwi.

Excellent news about the new album as well.

This.

Neil Finn is the major driving force behind Crowded House, being the singer and songwriter, and he is a Kiwi. Without him there is no Crowded House.

As a result Crowded House is more an NZ band than Australian. A lot of their songs have an NZ flavour to them too, like Kare Kare (a place in NZ where they recorded Together Alone) and the self titled track from Together Alone featuring a Maori choir.

New album is out now and it is very good I think. Twice if your Lucky, Amsterdam and Archers Arrow are my favorite. 1 or 2 shockers like most albums nowadays but overall another top effort.

Split Enz - Kiwi (obviously).

Crowded House - Australian. Formed in Victoria, that's where they started out. As a collection of people, they are/have been New Zealanders, Australians and Yanks, with arguably the most important person being one of the New Zealanders. As a musical entity, the band is Australian.

To those saying Kiwi, imagine you and a mate played bass and drums. You meet this bloke from America, he can sing and write songs, you start a band. Are you an American band, or an Australian band?

Arguably? Like Paul McCartney was arguably the most important member of Wings.

Well, you could argue that Paul Hester's drums (vastly underrated) and Nick Seymour's bass, keys and visual-artistic creativity are what made the band Crowded House, rather than a Neil Finn solo project. Importance is a tricky concept in collaborative efforts. Often the traditionally considered "most important" is the one that lays the groundwork, but it is the others that make it unique and what it is and is so recognisable.

Hence, "arguably". :)

No "arguably" about it. The most important part of Crowded House is the vocals and songwriting which is Neil Finn. Paul Hester and Nick Seymour's contributions were significant but they are still replaceable, Neil Finn's contributions aren't.

I always thought that the band itself was Aussie but Neil Finn was kiwi, so I guess that makes them both...

I'm really obsessed with Four Seasons In One Day at the minute.

Also anyone going to the concert? Me and a friend were considering it ($90 tickets which isn't band) but I really only know their popular songs, and I'm not sure how mcuh I wanna see them.
