That I never played for NSW.

Why?

Because with just one match in the 90s or early 2000s, it would have been enough to qualify me for some sort of quasi-music career based on what I’ve seen of Six and Out on YouTube this evening.
I was born on the same day as Brett Lee. I desperately wanted to be a cricketer, he desperately wanted to be a musician. He has more test wickets than me but I sold more records. We'll call it a tie.

I get to play gigs but no one gives a f**k who I am or pays any attention to what I’m doing, I’ve never been able to call someone like Isa Guha up next to me to sing, and I haven’t really tried but I’m pretty sure I could write a better song than Can’t Bowl Can’t Throw but who the f**k’s gonna ask me to record it

Every time I see a cricketer's "auto" biography I get the shits that this ghost-written bullshit can get published, while I don't have a chance of having (what I think is) genuinely well-written and thought provoking stuff published.

The bar is so low that middling cricketers like Ed Cowan now forge media careers based solely on their ability as former cricketers who can string a few basic sentences together.

I would have added Tim Paine to that group but because he landed the captaincy kind of by default, he becomes a go-to pundit for a quote now when journos want a story and who pops up regularly on podcasts

Can't Bowl Can't Throw made it to number 100 on the charts, which just means someone at the record company was sent down to the local Sanity store late one afternoon to buy an extra few copies....

Good on them for taking advantage of it, as much as the band weren't great, they made the most of it.

Exactly I couldn’t agree more hence I’m incredibly jealous of them. Robinson can play and sing a bit albeit he’s camped at the back

I think he's a bit different, regardless of the circumstances I think being Australia's test captain has typically assured you an ongoing career in cricket if you want it, for as long as you want it.

In the Firing Line is pretty decent.

Cowan is a knob.

Cant stand him.

If you played for NSW, you would have stood a very good chance of getting a Baggy Green as well as a Baggy Blue.

Experienced commentators that can't be bothered to do basic preparation and know at least the fundamentals of the players in and around the Test sides. An integral part of their job, I would have thought.

Jim Maxwell today was a case in point. He casually admitted on the ABC commentary that he had never seen Nathan McSweeney play before today. This is from a professional cricket commentator who is based in a country where there are a mere six first-class sides and where the player in question has been on the state scene for 6+ years. Not to mention McSweeney playing in high-profile trial matches in just the last few weeks.

It's also very easy to look up player stats and watch videos of their matches. As one of our fellow poster said a while ago, it's not like it's 1976 any more and this sort of information is inaccessible.

Old mate made a blunder in the first few overs when he triumphantly said that Mitchell Starc's first two overs were maidens, overlooking a no-ball in one of these overs ...

Jim must come really cheap nowadays because, sadly, he adds absolutely nothing to the ABC broadcasts during play. He's 2023/24 Bidenesque at times.

Jim Maxwell is the Alf Stewart of ABC Cricket.

Jim's too busy complaining on X formerly Twitter that there isn't enough coverage of the Shute Shield on ABC News to be worrying about silly cricket matches.
