Mitch Marsh might have contributed another 2 overs to relieve them

Did someone mention Mitch Marsh?

Talent wise over the years Mitch might have contributed a lot of things but he has not produced the goods often enough. I always have the feeling that he has been gifted Test matches. To me Mitch Marsh is the Billy Frampton of Test cricket.

In a decade long career in 45 Tests Marsh has averaged 29.67 and made 3 centuries with the bat and taken 51 wickets at 39.82. Plenty of opportunity without really shining as a batsman or a bowler.

I think Mitch Marsh is an indication of the difference between white ball cricket and Test cricket. In Test cricket the opposition Captains and bowlers have a much stronger hand as they can set fields and bowl at a batsman's weaknesses all day long if they wish. These days the selectors are forced to use white ball form to select Test sides and that has it's draw backs.

I realise that I sound like a broken record as by now my views on Mitch Marsh should be well known on this thread.

phil would watch Farmer Wants a Wife XXX ;)

Did anyone watch the T20 last night? Was Sams out caught behind? I swear there was more than one spike on Snicko and they just ignored the ones after the big spike which seemed to be before the ball reached the bat.

It was definitely a wood on ball sound.

Lloyd Pope would be wishing it was given. It's been a long time since I've seen someone carted like that. Everything hit the middle of the bat except the wide.

Agreed, for some reason it took the 3rd ump an eternity to respond to the on field umpire's call for a video review for the Sam's `dismissal', and when she did she completely ignored the obvious leather on wood sound as the ball passed the bat, and for some reason only concentrated on the earlier sound made by the bat hitting the ground.

As for Pope's bowling, it was roll your arm over and hope for the best rubbish where every ball except for the wide was just served up on a plate with zero attempt at any variation, and that over got exactly what it deserved.
As Mark Waugh suggested he was just putting the ball up there to be hit when a seam up quicker ball that the batsman couldn't get any elevation on had to at least have been worth a try!

I don’t blame Pope in the slightest, what is the skipper doing having a loopy leg spinner bowling at the death?

How about that interview with Konstas - he was like a first rounder on draft night, thanking everyone who's been with him on his 'journey'. Maybe he's read Boaky's book on Gratitude.

Ricky Ponting's first instinct was that's out. He knows the difference between bat on ball and bat on ground.

It wasn't even clear that the bat hit the ground, it almost seemed like the vision and sound didn't match up.

Anyway bad captaincy at the end, even Matt Short would have been a better option. Although Pope had only gone for 17 in his first 3 overs he really went deer in headlights in that over. Everything was in the hitting zone and hit the middle of the bat.

They were stuffed around when Fabian Allen pulled a hamstring with his 2 overs left to bowl. He looked a tidy left arm orthodox bowler.

This result certainly sets up Boxing Day - at least 90000 at the G, and countless millions watching on TV: bring it on!!!

And the return of Scott Boland, MCG folk hero

Cannot keep Travis Head out of the game atm, yes Alex Carey is having a good Test as well. Five victims behind the stumps and a well made 70.

Australia lead it by 185 runs. Match delayed by rain yet again and headed for a draw. I would not be surprised if they pulled stumps around tea time.

Some suggestion on Cricinfo that Australia might declare at 0 for 0, and set up a run chase. I strongly doubt it'll happen - 2 reasons:
  • The Aussie bowlers are cooked - why burden them any further?
  • If Pant goes ballistic, and the Indians pull off a win, the criticism Cummins would cop would be record breaking.

Isn't Cricinfo run by Indians? No, well most of the blog I see on that site appears to come from India. In any case Australia are batting. Whoever is running Cricinfo have Australia 6/0 so it has to be Indians. ;)

Had to smile at the Foxtel banner, THE BIG BREAK IS BACK. Haven't there been enough breaks in play during this Test without having another BIG BREAK plastered all over our screens.

Australia shouldn't have much difficulty covering for Josh Hazelwood as they still have three genuine quicks. The complication is that Mitch Marsh is wrapped in cotton wool and all of the workload will fall on Starc, Cummins and Lyon. I suspect that was what Ford Fairlane was getting at. I have not seen any reports of Marsh being injured so it is hard to understand why he was not used more.
