Fantastic review Tim!

however in regards to Makybe Diva and the remark "isn't blessed with an outstanding turn of foot" is absolute trash talk. Have you been watching other horses as the diva flies out wide. Anyone else think i am wrong here or what?

Nice post Tim.
It would be interesting to hear from other punters 'who would you back if Diva wasn't running ?'
I've already backed Desert War , so my bet wouldn't change.

Grey's Inn is the one that sticks out when I read your preview that I may have overlooked

At the minute I like LOTM from Makybe, Desert War and Field of Omagh

Will need to throw in one more for my trifectas...

That's an interesting point. Makybe Diva is that doesn't go "BANG", and go from cruise to top gear in a blink, like, for example, Lonhro or Xcellent, or going back a little, the immortal Kingston Town. She takes some time to wind up and and puts in a long, sustained run. That is why she is best suited to Flemington and longer distance races, where she has time to balance up and work through her gears.

Turn of foot.
Rubiton. Luskin Star.
Out of all the top horses i've seen, I'd go for "Luskin Star" with having the best turn of foot.Thats because he was more a sprinter than the others.

A mate of mine had an interesting perspective.

He's been at the Valley for all of the Diva's runs. He likes to position himself down by the fnial turn.

He says in each of the 3 runs, MD seems to lose balance for about 30 meters as she's coming around the camber. Once it flattens back out, she picks up again and hits the line hard.

He thinks that's the reason it can't win there.

Re the race, i have absolutely no idea nor inclination to try and pick the winner in this. There's 3 horses that shouldn't even be there for a start, if they are handy and decide to go backwards round the turn it could get ugly.

For the sake of a tip i'll go Xcellent, but i won't be having anything meaningful on him. Trifecta for interest and that is all.

I'm sure you're all familiar with the saying - form is temporary...

therefore, my Cox Plate trifecta is:

1. Makybe Diva.
2. Fields of Omagh.
3. Lad Of The Manor.

Roughie: Hotel Grand.

1. Makybe Diva

2. Lad of the Manor

3. Greys Inn

As far as value is concerned, LOTM is the best to back. You know it will run some sort of a race at the Valley and will be in the finish.

just read int he paper one bookie is risking 2 mill against the diva, and another that is saying she is unbeatable. Formula suggests someone knows soemthing, since 2mill risk is made mostly when you really should know something. Otherwise your ass gets busted.
So going on previous experience with bookies coming out and taking on the hot pot and how many times it pays off, and who trains the winner the majority of times, when the "2 mill hunch", LOL, pays off,
The cog suggests you stick with David Hayes, dont really get into Confectioner think he is just shy of real top shelf, but there is another neddy who kinda has one plate in the bag already, and mr weatherman is coming to the party big time again for him. F.O Omagh is the one for me. Form is top notch, without it being really put up in lights in the media. Wanted excellnt, but track wet, risk high, not many pentires get through the wet.
1. Fields of Omagh
2. Gods Own
3. Makybe Diva;)

Maybe the same punter who backed Lonhro.

sorry, misread the article, the guy that has declared the diva a cert, was the one that declared Lohnro couldnt win the 2003 plate, which was one by you know who. ;)

1st- Lad Of The Manor
2nd- Makybe Diva
3rd-Fields Of Omagh
4th-Xcellent

I think Lad of The Manor is a great each way chance in the Cox Plate.
He has been ultra consistent this prep & is a track specialist. He will hit the front with 100m to go,Makybe Diva will be charging home but will come up short.

The official track rating for tomorrow’s Carlton Draught Cox Plate day at Moonee Valley will be dead rating providing forecasted showers and thunderstorms don’t arrive in the next 24 hours.
In the last 48 hours the track has received 10.5 mils of rain with 6 mils falling overnight.
No rain has fallen on the track this morning and it is currently overcast and high in humidity with showers and a thunderstorm forecast for this afternoon.
”The penetrometer is currently 4.76 and the middle of out dead range is a reading of 4.75,” Moonee Valley Racecourse Manager Greg Barker said.
”There is no chance of the track being upgraded to good it will be dead at best.
”Hopefully the predicted showers and thunderstorm don’t arrive but if they do the track will cop another 6 to 10 mils before it would need to be downgraded to slow.
”Tomorrow they are predicting light showers throughout the day and the worst case scenario is if we get constant rain during the meeting as they tend to chop it out.”

There has already been one very heavy shower tonight, and another big one on the way - I'm watching the radar on http://mirror.bom.gov.au/products/IDR022.loop.shtml

Lad of the Manor is a mile specialist I reckon. I don't believe he can run out 2040m. 1800m, he might hang on. Nothing longer. I'm starting to doubt he'll run a place against these.

Actually I like Hotel Grand each way for value. (I also liked Sir Dex last week.) Usually is positioned well and without the weight, could challenge the oldies. But to go past MakyDiva is madness. Boss will computerize past MV problems, the horse will be guided thus, but value she ain't.
