From memory he's got another whole year to run on his contract after this one. Gross.

Delisting him this year would be quite bold from the club. He definitely needs something though, some kind of wake up call. I'd take literally anything from the SA clubs for him at this point. Pack of twisties.

He really is just wasting a list spot going backwards at the moment, along with Jamieson on the outer oval.
Agree, if Barnett doesn't progress and looks like the club feel he isn't, I would delist, pay out and take what we can get and fill that list spot with someone else.

agree, but he follows him quickly out the door
Realistically Barnett's snail mode development isn't the reason we are getting bent over in the league games.

It's our senior players and the culture that's been embedded over the last 5 years since Covid. Piss weak entitled mummy's boys with zero resilience.

Delisting Barnett isn't going to change the culture. We need to delist Cole, Kelly and Hunt for starters... the senior players who DGAF

Don’t think we can say that Cole and Hunt DGAF, but their shitty disposal does create an illusion that they DGAF.

Didn't we suddenly turn into a contested side in the 2018 finals?

Remember seeing a stat showing our H&A contest numbers compared to a shift upwards in September.

Yes. The graphic you’re thinking of was on on the couch and they were taking about West Coasts contested problem and Gerard was saying he was trying to work out if West Coast are a great team or a team that had a great 4 weeks.

I think it early 2021.

Top 25% at each club are restricted, which works out to be the top 10-11 players at each club.

People trying ty figure out who the 11 guys are who get paid more than Draper and can’t name more than about 5.
Merrett
Martin
Parish
Ridley
Mgrath
Langford
Redman
Mckay (had to for compo)
Caldewell?
Durham?

Pretty hard at the end there.

More wins than any other side 2015-2018 kinda answers that question I would have thought.

We were a great side that lifted to even greater heights in September 2018 when it mattered most.

2015 - Best side in all season
2016 - we’re just about to hit our straps in 2016 when Naitanui did his knee. Got back on a roll with journeyman Giles but the bye ****ed us and choked in the final
2017 - flat as a tack without Naitanui and with the slowest midfield ever but fought back to win a final
2018 - you campaigners know what happens next

Pretty great stretch and one can only wonder how we would have gone had we had the luxury of 9 other clubs in our state/city and an infinity GF contract at Subi.

Sadly until we start winning games, we have exactly 0 chance of luring a big name player like Rowell over unless they're a West Aussie looking to come home for whatever reason.

Regardless of our salary cap space, there is nothing we could realistically pay a player of that caliber (i.e. a top 20 mid) that their own club could not pay to retain, or that a number of other more attractive (winning) clubs could offer.

Leaves us with identifying players with significant upside in other clubs who are not getting a crack at their preferred position, and offer them well overs and the promise of playing in their preferred position. Will still be a hard ask if we're not winning games, but jag a few of those types and have it work out (Ned Long a good recent example) and it's a great supplement to hitting the high end of the draft and speeding up the complete rebuild we'll inevitably now need to undertake.

Eh…

Geelong won more than any team 2016-2019.

I think there is a pretty solid argument that we were a good team that had a great 4 weeks.

We got it right for 4 weeks and was able to make it count.

There was always a bit of a soft underbelly.

2 prelims is a pretty low return for a great side.

If Sharp doesn't come on, we HAVE
to throw everything at Rowell.

We need lots of things but an absolute inside bull is #1. He's also quick and likes to hit hard. Lead by example, lift others around him. Worth 2 mill a season for our club

Let's make it happen.

I would love to have him in the team too, but there is absolutely zero chance of that ever happening.

M.Rowell wants success now, and to go back to Victoria at some point in future - neither of which we can offer.

Essendon and Bulldogs already offering more money than we would be able to put together for him as well.

Geelong playing the longer game, want him to sign a two year extension with the Suns and then take him via free agency - which is what I currently expect will happen.

It needs to be understood that West Coast is currently the least desirable destination in the league. The times of the club being able to turn heads through its prestige are long gone.

Any murmurs regarding Reid or Warner on your end?

I am all for senior players that DGAF be gone ASAP but the must be realistically replaceable and not just with more kids through the draft only.

We are very young and while we need some elite talent through the draft still, it is our 22-26yo bracket of players that are the biggest hole and in need of fixing.

Cole isn't the problem, Hunt isn't the problem, maybe their disposal is and their consistency.

There are bigger holes and players that would go before those 2 and it's up to list management too sort that ASAP which I think they are finding out really quickly who they are.

2 years, 2025/26 of trading in players of the calibre to replace aging players and underperforming ones will be a BIG job, but if 2024 trade period was anything to go by I can see significant change coming to the list, only draft picks and ability to attract players being the biggest hurdle.

Probably 4 mids(through draft & trade), a decent ruck and a few underperforming players to replace imo, that's why RFA/UFA are a valuable resource to build a team but there doesn't appear to be a hell of a lot to work with.
So it's basically targeting OOC players and pre OOC players at higher draft cost to fill this space.

Would love to hit up P Cripps or Bont to come for 3 years and change the culture of our club for the better, make our team better, guide our young developing players, but you would need to give up significant draft capital for Cripps and the Bont is far less likely to happen even if he is a UFA this year.

Injuries to key players over and over again I think cost us a possible chance at another premiership.
Had NicNat, JK, Yeo, Shuey, Gov, Shep, Lecca not continually missed games through injury in that period anything was possible. Always seemed 1,2,3+ were always missing at some stage.
