Whether we get Warner or not, I think we're looking for a wingman with our first pick. If we don't get Warner, we use our Allen compo on an inside mid. That's pretty much our midfield complete. From that point, we just need time to bulk them up.

I think Bo Allan may develop on the wing or be brought in for a wing role while he develops his inside mid craft.

Let's say we finish last and Oscar leaves netting us pick 1 & 2, and for arguments sake Hawks finish 4th.

Picks: 1, 2, 15, 19, 33, 51

Get ready for the melts....

We split pick 2 and trade with GC (I would prefer Ess/Rich but GC more conservative) for their 2 highest 1st round picks (currently 7 & 14) leaving us with:

1, 7, 14, 15, 19, 33, 51 + 2026F1 + 2027F1

We keep picks 1 and 7 for best mids available (maybe Curtin?), offer our 2026 F1 (likely top 4) with one of picks 14, 15 or 19 to Swans.

We then offer the 2 remaining (of 14, 15, 19) to the Bulldogs for pick 9 to get back into the top 10 for a sliding mid.

Oh and we take Clancy Dennis in this year's MSD.

So in the next 12 months, we lose Oscar, but we bring in:

Sharp, Curtin, Freddy, Warner, Koby Evans, Wes Walley and Clancy Dennis.

We get rid of our 2026 F1 which is not ideal but we also have Lachlan McGlade and Garrison Kenh coming through the NGA who project well at this stage.

This would address most of our areas of concern with the exception of a ruck, which we can all agree we can trade in once we are pushing for finals.

What if we tried that and there were no takers?

You're just assuming because GWF jumped in front of us.

We met with Jones numerous times and were going to take him before GWS got in front.

You can't just assume it's 'easy' to trade up if there aren't any takers, or the cost is too high.
Well we traded pick 3 very easily. Are you saying that we are the only club stupid enough to trade down?

I'd at least check the tyres on a covno with james worpel, tough as **** another leader, 26, buys time and another good player to learn off for the kids
Yep last I heard the Hawks haven’t even offered him a contract.

Question should be asked definitely but likely won’t leave Vic. Will end up down at the Cattery if pushed out or at the Saints.

Plus would have to be a trade with Oscar band 1 effected.

It wasn’t easy. Apparently us and the Roos were both looking at trading down for the draft but couldn’t find takers last year.

I think Ryan Daniels reported GWS apparently knocked back an offer that was worse than the one we got with the Blues in the end.

Only after the Hawks and Blues did their trade did it become available.

You can see why, Berry and M Reid around that mark look set for 200+ great careers and showed just as much at AFL level as the top end blokes (maybe besides Lalor)

Last year the top blokes would’ve suited us so well, pure mids. But M Reid and Bo would’ve also been very nice. Splitting imo wasn’t the issue as much as using one of them in that draft for Baker. Hawks F1 for Baker if they were so adamant on giving a first for him but they were preparing for Warner.

Might mean we miss out on Gross if the Power don’t have the trade up with Freo lurking for Berry too.

Sliding doors moment.

If Oscar decides to leave and Kelly retires or requests a trade, we should have STUPID AMOUNTs of cash in our salary cap.

Will be interesting to see who they offer it to
If Oscar leaves as a free agent and we are getting band 1 there isn't much we can do other then heavily front load a contract for Harley Reid and Chad Warner.

Imagine if we somehow get pick 1 (spoon), pick 2 for Oscar, and don’t give up either for Warner? Maybe the AFL give us 2 end of first round priority picks, we trade one and our F1 for Warner, and trade the other to the Pies for Darcy Cameron.

Draft Sharp and Rodriguez with 1 and 2, along with Warner and Cameron coming in via trade.

All of a sudden we have Darcy Cameron rucking to a midfield of Harley, Warner, Yeo, Gross, Hewett, Sharp and Rodriguez.

A man’s allowed to dream, right? That would be an insane group of midfielders to carry us back up the ladder.
In before Tigers get the spoon and then get pick 2 as compo for losing Kamdyn McIntosh as an unrestricted free agent…

I have no idea how to search for this, but I wonder how many Brownlow votes Kelly has got since joining WC, when was the last time TK was BOG for WC.
He's poll lots. But the problem is he's hot and cold. You can't build a team when you senior players only turn up half the time.

All of these players, I think would add a bit of hardness to the side.

Cory Grocock

Boyd Woodcock

Jed Laycock

Shai Hiscock

Jye Peacock

Austin Ball

Zane Cochrane

Jack Cocking

* I give up on this bad joke, it'll take be hours. LOTs of people with double entendre names.
I've barely started with the ****'s, let alone the balls, sacks of various spelling and other which sound banworthy.

(Should I have started with the balls first and worked my way to the *****?

Lack of Adam Cockey was disappointing

What's the benefit of keeping Allan, it's the only position we have credible depth in.

If we let him go and bring in Warner plus another top 2-3 midfielder with the Allan compo pick we can finally start seeing some growth in the midfield.

Pack ya bags buddy. He can sip on all the Americanos he wants.

If Oscar leaves, and I am still in the group he doesn't.
We front load Warner contract, which I believe is already the offer.
Reid will be paid according to his ability.

If Oscar leaves, we take that cash and put it towards another A/B+ midfielder and have some left over, in the 22-24yo age group that can replace Kelly, Yeo and Duggan goes back to backline.

We can't simply draft our way out of our list position, we have a massive amount of talent in the under 21 group, we just need to draft 1 elite mids this year to fill the list needs in the draft category, KDEF option going forward can be found with later picks.
I would trade our way out of our midfield deficiencies, Warner the obvious target and most likely to get here.
Target the 4th midfielder in an elite midfield group from other teams to replace the Kelly and Yeo hole we find ourselves in, still think this is achievable within our draft capital assets and salary cap space.

We should be planning to have neither of these two players on our list next year, and as of right now we should be putting a 6 years @ 1.2 million per year deal in front of Lloyd Meek and his management.
He may not move - but the offer puts some financial pressure on Hawthorn to match.

I would love to have Meek in our colours next year.

He is the premium ruck in the Competition and would make us a 4 goal a game better team.

If as reported we have this huge chest of TPP - then we need to become savvy and strategic where we spend it.

Ruck is a position of urgency only behind our midfield, so let’s prioritise both these positions in the next trade and draft period.

So does the Hawks pick look slight better with the news Day is out for 3 to 4 months?

There is no way of sugar coating it unless Carlton improve massively, the 50/50 role of the dice ….. of the compensation pick for TEB either Carlton OR Hawthorn, looks like we have backed the wrong horse.

Hopefully Hawks slide some and Carlton lift to close the magnitude of the damage done with backing the wrong horse.

Back to your question - Day out is a big blow for the Poos & Wees, because he is one of their prime movers.

Blues have us then the Kangaroos, if they can't get their season back on track with those games there is no hope.

Conversely Hawks have Power then Cats. Might be a nice swing...
