Ryan Daniels reporting on the Hard Ball Gets that he doesn’t think we’re getting English - he’s likely to re-sign with the dogs

Sent from my iPhone using BigFooty.com
I just wish he'd get it over with. Sign for 5 years at $1mill and be done with it.

1 - screw the Dogs salary cap
2 - place all concussion risk on the Dogs.
3 - put everyone on this board out of our collective miseries.

That can’t be right! DS said Sheldrick was like a stud bull we couldn’t pass up on, how come he can’t get a game……………..hang on does this mean DS is FOS?

Sheldrick could still be a very good in and under player but a bit like Prestia to do it at AFL level he needs more strength. You don't walk in at his height these days and just go head to head on the inside ball unless you want to destroy kids careers. Sheldrick isn't small and had plenty of body size to him but not the kind of man child strength of someone like darling. Still needs to build more core strength. It's also not like Sydney have a midfield of big bull types either to protect him.

From all reports James Jordon and Matty Roberts had pretty good off seasons are a touch more versatile and are just holding him out by a bees dick however Sheldrick played decently last year at AFL level and very well at VFL level. I genuinely thought with Sydney's outs at the moment he would 100% be playing.

And with the Swans having no trouble attracting interstate talent through trades and FA PLUS getting free dip every year with their academies the result is players like Sheldrick and Warner Jnr will be pushed down the pecking order.

Definately opportunities there, and at Gold Coast, GWS and Brisbane.

Heads up a thread worth keep track of in the Draft and Trades folder.

Davo-27s 2024 Draft thread page 1.

Decent summay out to pick 50.

Top 5 pretty standard across other predictions.

If we do have pick 1 is there a Harley Ried standout to pick?

Richmond have a mountain of picks and their likely 1st will be 3 to 6. Jagga Smith / Josh Smillie.

Swans will again look to trading down under pick 10 with Joel Harrison another academy product ranked aring there. Swans may also hold two or 3 of Freo's 1st rounders after a McDondald trade potentially.

The Suns again will look to trading their 1st with Leonardo Lombard another gun mid from their academy falling later in the top 10.

So if we do end up with pick 1 unless a standout player emerges we will have plenty of options to trade down to land a Jagga Smith top 4 mid still available.

Yeah I'm thinking this could be a great year to split pick 1 or 2.

Like you say at this (admittedly very early) stage there is no Reid/Ashcroft/Daicos standout, but a group of 4-6 potentially who are hard to seperate.

Also, going off the Nisbett interview with Duff, there appears to be a definite softening of the 'no handouts' stance they once had. If WC have another year like the last two, we'll be getting something from the AFL for sure.

So 10 of the top 30 are likely to be off the table? And then there will be compo picks and perhaps a priority pick. So 1st pick on Night 2 is likely to be in the 30s again.
Admittedly the top 30 will change dramatically by November but what a farce the draft has become.

If this stacks up I hope we aren't focusing on the best WA kids

Are or aren't? Typo makes it hard to tell if you are being serious or facetious. Based on the fact that there is only 1 WA prospect rated in the top 30 and he is a ruck.
How far has WA footy fallen?

I could see us splitting for someone like Smith and gerryn

Yeah I'm thinking this could be a great year to split pick 1 or 2.

Also, going off the Nisbett interview with Duff, there appears to be a definite softening of the 'no handouts' stance they once had. If WC have another year like the last two, we'll be getting something from the AFL for sure.

And we should be softening our stance. Are we getting any plaudits for not getting a single handout or compo pick or even a father son for how long?

Two years our 2nd round pick downgraded by 8 to 10 spots as the AFL look after all the other struggling clubs? Like the grand finalists.

We should at a minimum be given some later picks, a 2nd and a 3rd round to trade for players and a couple of extra rookie spots. Not asking much when in reality we have already given up those picks value accomodating other clubs who have been deemed more in need of support than us. Like the Swans, Pies, Lions and Dogs who have stacked up with priority access to players.
