If TB did ask to go to a Melbourne club would the Blues 1st and Jack Carrol come close?

Depends where they finish but I see that as being reasonably close to fair.

We potentially pay some of TB's wage to get a better return.

Assuming Carlton finish top four, that’s a horrible deal.

If Carlton somehow finished with pick 10ish then maybe. Don't see that happening though

We do have a plan though. Quite clearly we are in a rebuild but it's not as grim as you suggest as the last few years we have done exceptional with our mid picks.

A future I can see being
Reid Ginbey Hewitt Hall and we still need to nail this year's draft. First pick on a mid and Chesser. There's our starting future top 6 midfield right there.

Problem is they need to develop. Yeo and Kelly is important for that but as soon as next year with another season into all our young mids it will only lead to improvement.

We can't just click our finger right now and expect all our 18 year olds to dominate.
All we need to do is remove Gaff and Sheed. Replace them this off season with two maturish mids to hold us firm until our youth fab five come into there own.

Replace Sheed and Gaff with more capable mids and bang watch us go.
Sheed and Gaff need to be replaced by the next wave of young guys coming in (ie R1 this year and maybe guys like Hall improving in the WAFL). This allows players like Ginbey, Chesser and Reid to assume more responsibility. Yeo and Kelly are our mature mids who play to lead the way and offer protection (while being good enough to justify a spot outright).

If we're lucky, we get a season or two where Yeo/Kelly/Darling/Gov are still performing and the young guys have developed enough to hold their own. This is what happened in 2011 and 2012, then the team dropped for a couple of years when the old guys retires and the newer ones had to step up.

Our window for this is probably 2025 and 2026, but relies on the mids becoming consistent (specifically Ginbey, Reid, Chesser and Hewitt). We've been lucky with the forward line, with Oscar and Waterman performing at a high level, and TB and Gov can hold things together down back.

Reckon Barrass is on wages that any team would happily pay/increase if he continues current form.

Jack carrol is worth nothing of value he would just take games off hall going forward.

So that make it a contracted barrass for say pick 14 ? Will be 18 after bids .

That is a big fat no from me on that deal .

Likely as they are similat types but I could see Petruccelle or Hutchingson involved in a deal for Collard.

Do the Saints want picks or players who could impact straight away?

Ross would want impact.
We would be crazy to let Hutchinson go. Talent to burn. Right age profile. Could be our next lecras.

According to the commentary to the U/18 WA v SA game, under-ager Koby Evans is an indigenous NGA for the Eagles. He bagged 2 goals and looked lively. He’s already 187cm and 82kgs. Sheehan noted that he has exceptional speed.

One to keep an eye on…

Let’s hope he’s good but not that good then?

If he looks alright I think with how the NGA rules are. We should just tell him no more games for the rest of the season.

Hide him completely and offer him a spot next year. We just build him up internally.
Then just go on and draft him with pick 100 lol. No other club is going draft him if he isn't playing league footy.

Is there rules that prevent that. Can we just shut up shop right now. What can AFL do about it.

Yep, he and Banfield both for next year and both look really promising!!!
They're both quite similar players too.

And how would you describe Collard our ex NGA?

Id describe him as very similar to Le crasas well.

To land a decent player in a trade you need to give up something decent.

We should hide him with Wes wally

A workmanlike performance from Moraes who showed improved intent to apply defensive pressure at stoppage to pair with his always elite run and linking play. His disposal was solid and he created several scoring opportunities for teammates, as well as snagging a goal of his own.

Carrol is getting games as a developing mid at a club contending now.

And doing alright.

What has Hall done to date in comparison? Zero.

And if the last three games have shown us we need to add to our midfield depth. Right age and a position of need.

We need to replace Sheed, Gaff, J Jones, L Edwards and in 2 - 3 seasons Yeo and then Kelly. Thats 6 more mids to come in. We arent getting them all with 1st round picks thats for sure.

14 may slide to 17 and land Travaglia or Bo Allen.

Travaglia plus Carrol for a 29 year old Barrass.

Every fan wants more sure but that isnt a stretch, maybe some future pick swaps to get it there.

Agreed?

However a team contending would need to be managing their cap very closely. And a club willing to pay wages for another team then gets compensated with picks or pick upgrades. Eagles dont have cap issues the next two years so why not use spare cap space to purchase picks?

Do you think Carlton would have a mountain of free cap space? Weitering and TDK both need new deals that wont be cheap.

Bulldogs? Several big stars re-signed with more to come. They will have a tight cap moving forward.

Teams will be ruthless and make room, Dogs lose Buss and English they've paid for a Barrass.

I would rather just keep barrass .

It could be McGovern's last season next year and the thought of him getting injured and Harry Edwards being our main big man fills me with dread

Lifted from a HS article posted on the Suns board.
As Brisbane and Richmond made clear their objections with any change this season, Gold Coast’s Mark Evans said the league should considering changing tack.

He told the Herald Sun the AFL should abandon restrictions that mean Victorian clubs cannot bid for their next generation academy talent within the first 40 selections of the draft.

At present Sydney, GWS, Brisbane and the Suns can take their northern states academy talent as early as pick 1.

But there are restrictions that mean a club which plays finals can only take two academy picks, with the Suns able to take four last year because they missed finals.

Evans told this masthead the league should instead be incentivising all academy talent after changing its rules when the Dogs secured academy talent Jamarra Ugle as the No.1 overall pick.

“Our view on academies is we think the easier solution (than changing the draft) is for the AFL to widen and improve what it does for access to NGA academies rather than make it more difficult for northern academies. There is a fair argument to treat father sons and NGAs the same,” he said.

“Our primary position is this can be solved by opening up NGA player acquisition rather than diminishing the chances for northern academy players to be drafted to their hometown.

“The whole idea was to incentivise clubs. You have to understand why the academies were there in the first place. The next generation academies are there to promote indigenous and multicultural talent. The northern academies are there to grow the game in those markets and service the players and families to promote a higher level of involvement in the code. We shouldn’t do anything to diminish that.

“There are already protections in terms of the number of players who can be matched as academy talent.”
