I remember when Jack came back in 1988. We played the Bays in a pre-season game in Robe. They beat us comfortably and at half time Jack gave the players an absolute spray for being so meek. The change rooms weren't all that soundproof.

The bays had smacked us around a few times under Russell as coach and Jack made it clear that was unacceptable and wouldn't happen any more on his watch.

It was not about stupid thuggery but not taking any crap from them and hurting them in any contest for the ball. We soon sorted that out.

Met JVC many times over the decades , had a few beers with him aswell . What a Champion bloke , in those days together with Big Bob and probably Fairclough and a few others this humble guy WAS the P.A.F.C. , don't want to be a sourpuss ,but , compared with what we have today makes ya wanna cry !.

His brief time coaching Collingwood is interesting, says they were a rabble off field & some players there he wouldn't have given a game at Port, still takes them from 11th to 3rd in two years & resigns after a heavy prelim loss. Collingwood probably cost themselves a flag or two by not having their shit together around him.

Jack is a winner and he imparted that on the players. I was lucky enough to have been support staff during the 90s starting with Buckleys first year 1991. Jack generally cool and calm but direct. I love the bloke. Nothing will ever rival that time for me.

My memory of John Cahill's two years at collingwood is that he resigned due to being absolutely fed up with being continually back stabbed, and specifically by Lou Richards and his brother.
