Thank You Arch!

Glenn Archer, what can you say? One of my genuine boyhood heroes who ive watched since I was 7 - watching him walk off today was like a part of me dying, but a part of me is forever grateful that I did get to see him play and that he did play for the greatest football club in the world.
I was lucky growing up, my Godfather took me to see some of North's best ever in Stevens, Carey, King, McKernan, Martyn, Rock, Larkin ... but Arch is the only player who has made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end everytime he does something special, due to a courage and fearlessness I've never seen before.

Your last great act on the field was walking off it with such dignity, humility and pride. It made me cry and gave me an outlet to flush out the anger and frustration that was boiling up onside me this afternoon.

Thank you Glenn, not just for your service to North on the field but your inspiration off it. You are a prince among men and you make me very proud to be a member of the North Melbourne Football Club.

Re: Thank You Arch!

Couldnt have put it better myself... well done :thumbsu:

Seeing Arch walk off in tears brought a tear to my eye too...

No way did he deserve a result like that though

Re: Thank You Arch!

This is just a venting thread to let it all out - Im not interested in pulling the game apart with what went right or what went wrong at the moment. Whilst some players do bring a red mist over my eyes it is too easy to blame when im this wound up.
Let's face it, im not gonna tear up my membership like some other clubs. Today was footy, it happens, its days like today that make the Premierships so special, because theyre so hard to get your mits on. Let the trade period bring what it will - we will regroup.
Today was just one of those days, you lose your job, your girlfriend dumps you, your house burns down and your dog runs away.
The real test of character is how you pick yourself up off the canvas and who helps you do it.
Rest assured, N.M.F.C will bounce back.

Congratulations Arch on a inspirational career.
Won't be the same without you.
The fact that you made the time to thank the supporters in that Voss interview is proof of what a class act you are.

Well done to Port for the guard of honor and applause at the end, also.

If you ever want to sum up what North Melbourne, the Shinboners, the Kangaroos etc represent, just show a photo of Glenn Archer.

A picture means a thousand words and this man has done everything right on and off the field for 16 years for our great club.

God bless you Champ................thanks for everything.

How lucky were we that you played for us.:thumbsu:

I lost it when during the Voss interview Arch's voice broke when he was thanking us the supporters of the North Melbourne FC. Didn't stop the tears til the ad break. I wish he didn't want to hav a year off before standing for the board.

Just got back from the game. To Glenn Archer, I say thank you. 26 minutes into the last quarter of your last game, I saw you smash past 3 North players standing back spectating and lay a bone crunching tackle...the tackle meant nothing in terms of the game, but it meant everything in terms of your attitude, commitment and desire for the jumper you have worn with pride throughout your career. It tipified what you are to my club, and for that I say Thank you Glenn.

Don't you love the fact that he acknowledged the North faithful.

Pain in my heart and tears running down my cheeks after that comment.

Re: Thank You Arch!

Thanks for correcting me both Arden and Manbearpig. I just thought that simmo started his career after 1996.

No probs. Wasn't having a go, it's nice to know we still have a playing link to that great premiership side. But devastating to lose the Norm Smith medallist from that dreamday :(

Just like to jump in and say how much Archer is respected outside North. Not just as a hard, committed player that gives his all for his club, but as a bloke outside it as well. Any club would have cheered him off today regardless of the result.

Glenn rocked today. As always. And credit to the PA crowd who gave him a fantastic send off after the game.

At the moment, I can't even begin to contemplate the fact that he is gone. I feel numb.

TV might not really show how many people in the crowd were cheering Glenn Archer from the ground, it was a full ground standing applause.

Im glad to say I was one of them.

i love you arch, thanks for bringing wat u have to this football club and this sport, u are truely a legend and i will never forget everything u have done

only time ive cried about football since carey left
