Coaches - Most Games Without a Premiership?

I was just reading an article about Rodney Eade's milestone this weekend and it got me thinking about coaches who coach for a long time without achieving premiership glory.

The obvious two amongst the current group are Rodney Eade and Terry Wallace.
Eade has coached 240 AFL games without a premiership, whilst Wallace is up to 234 games.

The only other one i can think of is Neale Daniher, who coached 223 games without tasting premiership success.

Can anyone think of a coach, in recent memory, who has coached more games without ever coaching a premiership?

Does it include coaches that have previously won one but are coaching for another?

Nah, i was more going for coaches who have never coached a premiership.

BTW If we did use your criteria, Mick Malthouse would likely win.
Not many coaches go 14 years straight without a premiership and still have a job.

how about the coaches that have won a flag - what is the most games they've coached before finally winning one? or even just most games coached between flags..

Mick Malthouse coached his first premiership in his 212th game as a senior coach, whilst Mark Thompson became a premiership coach in his 184th game.

Yep the Premiership mantle.

Your old friend Malthouse isn't doing too well for the pies.
look i cant argue that, Mick has got close but no cigar. Depends on how long Collingwood stick by him, some good players coming through and perhaps we can get 1 in the next few seasons.

Was very suprised Craig got renewed so quickly, would have thought u would see how the rest of the season went, think he still had another year there to go.

Cant see Adelaide jagging one for quite a long time, especially with McLeod, Edwards, Goodwin all on the wrong side of 30

Paul Roos holds the record for the most games as player and coach before winning a premiership, I think its about 450.

No more deserved premiership has ever been earned than that won by the Swans for Roos to break his drought.

He is rated extremely highly in Adelaide and gets the best out of the group of players without question. I don't think there were too many people unhappy about re-signing Craigy.

We will lose those top players but we also have some quality youngsters coming through the club. Those 3 guys you mentioned really have contributed as much this year as years gone by and I have no doubts that when they do pull the pin we will have the guys to replace them. If some of the youngsters make it to the level many of us believe they can I think we could challenge again in 2/3/4 years time.

I thought it was interesting considering his coaching in finals has been pretty avg.
I do think he has done extremely well considering Adelaide were touted as being down near the bottom of the ladder and at the moment you could possibly get 4th spot.
Impressed with his hand in developing players like Van Berlo, Knights, Mackay and Vince, have really stepped up.
Perhaps Adelaide wont have to go down to get back up
