How is this any different from a company proposing an offer to employ you while you work somewhere else?
Whilst I see where you’re coming from, I would love a club to try a non-compete clause. 🤔. They are pretty common in some industries.

Tipping that wouldn’t be allowed by the CBA.

You would have had trouble getting JHF, Sav, Zerk-Thatcher, Lukosius, W. Rioli, Allir, Sweet, Burton etc.

Just the way it works. Also a real point to note, Rowell was the one who decided the time to meet, so it's not like this was unsolicited. Both players and clubs operate in this fashion.

Without bothering to look, I'm fairly sure other clubs aren't allowed to talk to players during season, but I'm unsure if that applies at other times.

Regardless, clubs would absolutely know if their players are talking to other clubs and wouldn't be doing it this early without some kind of go ahead to explore their options, because they are doing the same with other teams.

Adam Simpson, when quizzed about Barrass meeting Mitchell during the season, did a podcast on Backchat after getting sacked and said oppo coaches meeting with players happens all the time.

Said they'll meet with up to 40 players a season to gauge their interest.

It's not an industry secret.

I don't know, maybe ask Z. Williams, M. McGovern, Cerra, E. Hollands, Acres, Fogarty, Docherty, Hewett, Pittonet, Saad, L. Young, Haynes and Newman what they think?

Ouch, touched a nerve there.

The point is, should there be stricter rules regarding the approaching of contracted players or just make it open slather ??

At present, it is a bit of each which serves no purpose.

Honestly didn't touch a nerve. It was a genuine question, as literally every side in the league does it. Just seemed like a bit of a pointless whinge bringing up Rowell and Allen, when 16 other teams are engaged in the same behavior.

I'd rather there was more transparency, and we just allowed players to contact and move...instead of the whole charade of 'oh I love the club but I'm going to take my time before making a decision', circus, that happens every year.
