No one is saying the indigenous people are lying.

But whether you like it or not, the accused still have a right to go through the court process and have a right to a fair trial.

Look at it this way, let's say I spent a night with someone and the next morning had buyers remorse and accused them of assault. The evidence is there that sexual contact happened but it isn't proven that I didn't consent and the accused has the right to defend himself.

P.s. that is an example, not the best but it is meant to show that evidence doesn't always mean conviction. I would never falsely accuse someone of such a life ruining event. That is abhorrent to me.
