So here’s an interesting ‘what if’ question, if your team had to replace their traditional home jumper with an away/clash or pre-season jumper from the past, which would you choose ?
  • Here are the rules for this scenario:
    • The jumper you choose can’t be part of the teams current guernseys set
    • The jumper you choose can't be a previous home jumper
    • The jumper must be a different design to the traditional jumper, if possible (so no inverse of the home jumper)
I recently covered this topic in a video on my YouTube channel but I'd be keen to see what guernseys everyone on here would choose (video is linked below if you want to see my choices)

Well, we have nothing for that one, just variations of the Red V and that weird mash up guernsey from one pre-season in the 90s

I actually like the gold on brown 'away' jumper which Adidas introduced in 2013. Made zero non-commercial sense, and was worn when it absolutely shouldn't have been (i.e. away to Carlton/Collingwood/Essendon/Melbourne) - but, it looked great especially with brown shorts. Wouldn't choose to replace the brown on gold, though if forced it'd be an easy choice.

A legend of this forum once brought up the idea of a night jumper, worn occasionally in home games under lights. The mostly-brown ensemble would present well for such a purpose.

The night jumper is a neat idea. Its something that's been done on occasion over the years in motorsport, particularly NASCAR, where some teams have ran designs during night races simply so the car looks better under lights.

I think it makes more sense than an over considered clash jumper.

There have been some great alternates around but a lot of the time they're resistant to too much change and don't actually mitigate a clash – St Kilda's hot cross bun, North 90s, the one the Crows brought back last year, Port's first ones – and it also seems like mostly darker strips are more popular than the white jumpers which were huge in the the late-2000s.

There's examples where a team's regular home looks really good in the sun or MCG grey but they've worn something that really only works under lights: West Coast's late 90s / Subi last season navy wings, that majority brown Hawks one, I'd even say stuff like the Crows' Gather Round design too.

It's why I hate when clubs try and do dark themed or two tone strips but then once you drop all the marketing freedom, it's worn at 4pm on a Friday at a SANFL ground or has a million sponsors stickered to it. you need to consider its application.
