Surely Crouch & Nankervis are givens.

Cook we should persist with after a quiet game as needs continuity... but I fear he is an easy target to drop.

Smith should be an out, but likely to be promoted back into 22. Hopefully back to a wing & removed from defence.

McHenry should either be sub or back to sanfl.

No issue bringing in Berry as sub.

Surely Murphy doesn't warrant a return.

Burgess won't come in unless we have an injury.

Yep - it’s going to be telling.

Bench of Berry, Nankervis, Smith, Burgess, McHenry, Cook, Crouch, Murphy.

Crouch - our best inside mid by a mile
Nankervis - must stay in the 22
Cook - must stay in the 22

Leaves one of Berry, Smith, Burgess, McHenry, Murphy into the 22 + the sub.

Berry - inside mid / decent sub option
Smith - worst form of his career / terrible sub option
Burgess - break glass tall / ordinary sub option
McHenry - fumble McFumbleton / good record as sub
Murphy - No no no / no no no

If we move Laird to the half back line where he should be - then I’d go Berry in / McHenry sub.

My selection order from the poor options above is:

1) Berry
2) McHenry
3) Murphy
4) Burgess
5) Smith

Expect Smith into the 22 and Murphy as sub :-(

PS - DO NOT SUB OUT CURTIN THIS WEEK YOU DOLT

Want to see the likes of Dowling, Ryan, Edwards, Taylor, Bond making an appearance in this 23 soon. Are we the only club not using the sub for new blood?

Look at the energy that including Curtin created!

My Changes:

In: Ryan, Smith

Out: McHenry, (Sub: Jones)

- Surely Jones is on the outer. Genuinely cannot see what he provides to the best 22 with where we are at this stage. If we were a top 6 team then I think he could be an important role player, but thats his ceiling. A bit like Hamill - I think people like the idea of Chayce Jones. Fast, a great kick of the footy, and tough as nails.

What I think they will do:

In: Murphy, Smith.

Out: Cook, McHenry (sub)

Smith was certainly terrible as sub last week. Injected no life or energy whatsoever.

Should be in the reserves this week. If he can recapture his spark, great. If not then we don't risk activating his trigger. Better to find out at that level.

Putting him in the leadership group was stupid but the quicker we acknowledge that stupidity the less damage it does.

Its a pretty insipid leadership group. We have 8 players in the leadership group. How many of our leaders would be in our top 10 performance wise in 2024?

Dawson is obviously - but then the next best players aren't in the group as I would have Rankine, Soligo, Max, Keane, Worrell,Crouch and Tex as our best performers in 2024. Can then throw a blanket over the next group of Hinge/ROB/Keays/Rachele/Laird/FOG before getting to the depth players / real youngsters / outta form oldies.

Leadership is an issue

Dawson leapfrogged the whole club

Players like Soligo and Michalanney scream leadership to me but you don't want to burden young players with that early in their careers.

I'd love Rankine to get elevated. There's a tendency to pigeon-hole some players as enigmatic and not the set-your-watch types that leaders usually are. But he's such a talisman and I think it would get the absolute best out of him. Just a gut feel.

Needless to say the ones in there now are largely uninspiring. Loyal foot soldiers mostly.

I love that he described the pressure for selection coming from the twos, then added three players who haven't applied the pressure!

Then, he more-or -less implied an unchanged side.

They're just a standard choice of words designed not to offend anyone and impart not much information.

I'm not so sure, I reckon he's being pretty honest. He does want pressure from 2s performances, he knows it's important. He's just not going to select them if they're not in his 25/26 decided through preseason. And he's always going to lean on continuity and experience when there's a decision to make. Brodie was awful, should we replace him with a fit and in form kid? No, he brings continuity and experience, but we can replace him with Murphy. So little to no changes.

What did you expect? We have won 3 out of 4 with a 4 point loss mixed in
At least Curtin named on the field - means he is almost certain to play.

Nank and Crouch will play and the rest named on the bench are well chosen. Any of them could miss and not be unlucky

Surely even you can't support Smith's continued selection.

i thought last week like much of the year we have been carried by our defence and some individual performances.

Cook, Jones, Ned and to a lesser extent Dragon, Keays, Smith when he came on and Curtin all played fairly minor roles and yet we were still able to secure victory.

We need a full team effort this week and against Collingwood at the G.

If these boys cannot do it i would hope that some of Harry, Berry, Billy, Taylor, Ryan may be able to take up the cudgels in the next week or so.

Berry's ahead of Schoenberg, and that's fine.

But almost every other player should be ahead of Smith, Murphy and McHenry.

Schoenburg coming off a pretty serious long term injury... Don't mind giving him at least 3 full SANFL games to get some touch and match fitness before we rush him back in.

Hopefully he builds good form and can push Laird out of the team, but thats likely wishful thinking...

Unchanged

Lachlan Murphy is not playing

Sub from Crouch, Nankervis, Smith, Cook and McHenry

“We are jot going to make changes unless it makes the side better”

Wow…

This club hasnt changed at all..

If it thinks leaving mchenry and smith in is essential as there is currently no one else they could replace them with that would “make the side better”.. then they are simply no good at selection and their eyes are fxxkn painted on.

Imagine being a young player at this club watching the utter garbage mchenry has dished up for weeks now and hearing that line from the club…
