Until we lost, I always thought we were going to win, si I wouldn’t have changed anything at the time.

In retrospect, i would have loved them to have said, stuff it, we can't avoid going long down the line, let's just get some fxxxxen numbers there and stop letting them win every fxxxen down the line contest. With most teams copying the WCE zone, i think that's what will win the flag this year.
If Tay doesn’t kick to Yeo you don’t have to change a thing.

Oh yeah I forgot all those times we were in winning positions in GF's and won them. It was pretty obvious after halftime we had to do something but injuries had taken most of our cards off the table long before we got there, I mean it was Madgen and Oxley during that last month, ****en bastard luck.
So there's no way I'm not going in with a 200cm 100kg mobile key that hits targets and averages 8 marks. He was leading disposals early when the game was on the line last week, I couldn't believe it, he's a ripper.
It waa a different history that clouded my judgement. One thing that made that loss extra painful in my mind is that when Degoey kicked that goal early in the last, it confirmed in my mind the game pattern weve seen so many times. One team gets off to a flier. The other team works their butt off to got off to gradually grind their way back into the match. The team who got off to a flier runs away from them in the last. WCE were too bloody good for that to happen.

Darce and Roughy are spot on for the two key positions, we took mediums like Langers, Howe and Schaz as far as we could last year, but a key needs a key. Where you and I disagree is you think we are top heavy and I think we are just slow. Langers Schaz Aish (all class) just how many laconic smooth medium paced players can you have in that backline without the afterburners to hand off to? Crisp is the only one that provides any oomph or chance of getting it over the top and it's murdering us.
Don't forget Maynard. Our system is reliant on the likes of Phillips putting in the big ones to be back there as the outlet player.

I assume as a Thursday game side will be named tonight around 6.20pm Melbourne time.

With that in mind, what do we know with certainty?

Mayne is out with a nasty injury so that’s one change.

Beams is back in order so he’s a certainty as in.

In: Beams

Out: Mayne (injured)

Now, will we entertain a further change or two?

Logic says Greenwood would be looked at for the Neale situation, but is it a given?
Logic suggests Brown might be the unlucky player to be axed.

But will we go that way?
Not sure we do.

Who else might be in contention to jump into the side? Suggest these names at least discussed:
Crocker, Daicos, Sier, Goldsack, Reid, Appelby, Wills, and maybe a few others but not quite yet eg Quaynor.
Realistically I think all,of the above discussed aren’t happening this week.

So it’s down too Greenwood as yes or no? I’m guessing we’ll bypass Greenwood and make the one change.

In: Beams
Out: Mayne (injured)

Emergencies: Greenwood, Appelby, Crocker, Sier

Round 5

B. Langdon ~ Roughead ~ Maynard
HB. Howe ~ Moore ~ Crisp
C. Sidebottom ~ Treloar ~ Phillips
HF. Beams ~ De Goey ~ Stephenson
F. Elliott ~ Cox ~ Thomas
R. Grundy ~ Pendlebury (c) ~ Adams
I. Mihocek ~ Aish ~ Brown C ~ Varcoe

B. Langdon ~ Roughead ~ Maynard

F. Elliott ~ Cox ~ Thomas
R. Grundy ~ Pendlebury (c) ~ Adams
I. Mihocek ~ Aish ~ Brown C ~ Varcoe

Beams for Mayne is a definite.

Instead of Greenwood I would like to see Sier for Brown. Go head to head in midfield. Limited minutes from Sier plus limited minutes from De Goey will balance us up really well in there. Brown stiff but I think its the right idea.

Aish is also on thin ice but i'd stick fat one more week. Any more hospital passes though and I'd be looking at Appleby or Quaynor next week. Aish needs to get up to pace with his field kicking in pressured games.

Thomas's misses. He'd kicked every single ome of those throughout the year. The god knows what free kick against Grundy. So many what if moments.
I’m being disingenuous anyway. Even if we had won, we would still need to change things and improve for this season. Stand still and watch the competition leave you behind.

I’d agree Sier in for Brown.
Just don’t think they’ll go that way.

To me it’s really simple.
Sier is a far better and more valuable player than Brown.

Appelby would be ahead of Quaynor I’d suggest. But the back 7 seem very very solid in the coaches thinking.

That’s true.

Except Carlton, as Carlton cant even leave Carlton behind :).

Depends; which Carlton is in line for the #1 pick in this scenario?

Yet they used him fwd v WC to no effect. The next question would be why would we shoehorn a guy that was being beaten on the night into our best performing line?.. I would also add that ball use then becomes a huge question mark on him down back.
