Additionally this desire to be the 'nice guys' at the trade table, has put us in a position where our other players feel much more comfortable leaving us as well.

It's all well and good to try and take on a new level of professionalism around this player movement, but if we're the only club making it easy then we're just disadvantaging ourselves.

Until the league allows players to be traded without consent, we need to be tougher, not softer.

I trust Carr will play hardball, Stink face was the culprit sofcok who had a say in the Houston trade.

Lord is far from done. Talls can vary in the amount of time they take to come good. Look at Cadman over at GWS, looked to be a dud pick and only now is starting to show some very good signs.

Even Thillthorpe for Crom, didn’t think much of him when they recruited him, they persisted, had that injury interrupted year and came back grizzly Adam’s . We’d have stalled his development big time.

We don’t really play like that at all.

We have kicked 35 goals in the last 2 weeks for instance.
I’m not talking last couple of weeks. Since he’s been there he’s brought the same defensive game plan he had at Freo.
Not saying St Kilda didn’t need it because they used to leak goals easy.
Problem has been scoring enough goals same problem at Freo.
Look at our game against you last year. Most probably the worst game of football ever.

This is a myth and not reality.

We had a number unavailable for the game against you blokes and for much of the season up until that point.

For the rest of the season. We averaged 83 points a game during the last 8 games. 89 points in games at marvel.

Our issue, since Ross has returned. Has been getting cattle on the park. Same issue this season and this week.

Which is why it’s going to make it so hard to beat you blokes in Adelaide.

There were defensive efforts that were poor across the board from Evans, Farrell, Boak, Rozee, JHF, Wines, etc, hard to drop them all. I think Evans gets a pass as he's a kid, the seniors need to be the consistent ones leading the way.

The biggest difference we have from some teams, and I'll single out the Crows, is that despite their lack of polish and talent over the last few years, they just work their butts off. They fight for every single contest until the final siren. We don't, we play conditional footy, we run hard occassionally, we defend occassionally, we often play like a team focussed on conserving energy, expecting someone else to save the day so that we can then go find space for our counter attack. The inability for our guys to just work hard 100% of the time and grind out every game kills me. Patches of down are acceptable, but we produce weak, soft, lazy efforts weekly.

It's exactly why this group has needed a huge shake up and change for a long time. I'm so over persisting with the status quo.

Footage has come in of Ken in Thursday mornings coaches meeting....

i win square peg in a round hole GIF
Spot on. Not sure why we have such wild swings in work rate and effort. Boak, Ebert, Wines, SPP, Gray, etc - all super hard working players. But there has been a consistency in our inconsistent effort levels. Is it fitness? Is it a lack in killer instinct across the club and list? Is it a failure of mindset and mental resilience and toughness across the list?

Additionally this desire to be the 'nice guys' at the trade table, has put us in a position where our other players feel much more comfortable leaving us as well.

I do wonder how much the player and player agent plays in this.

We had two picks from Melbourne on the table. Then Houston was heading to Carlton, then maybe north, then Collingwood out of no where. The pies had no trade capital and a tight cap.

So how can port go from two first rounders (think two top ten picks initially?!?) to a single late first rounder and Richards? For a twice AA, in contract player in the leadership group. Even if we are weak or the easy beats, this is next level. This is where I wonder if a player agent has pushed a line of ‘get the deal done or we don’t work with you again’ or something similar.

Why we gave a first rounder for Luko, a player outside the 22, never AA, out of contract and took on Atkins salary, ie the same deal we got for Houston, I have no idea.

As much as we want port to fight and be tough and think we can and should attract any and all talent, the reality is clubs outside of Vic find it harder to attract players, coaches and officials. Look at the crows, dockers, eagles, swans, etc coaching players - lots of past players and local options. How many players have left their home state to come to an interstate club? Considering the crows are right up the road, alienating a powerful player agent or agency, would not be sensible. Perhaps we have prioritised players being happy, port having a reputation as being good to trade with and getting the deal done and keeping player agents happy. I do wonder and, perhaps, hope this is the case, rather than our list management and club being piss weak.

Unless we are in a premiership window, there's no reason to keep it the way it is. We learn more about them at AFL level than at our shit SANFL team. This is the best way to fast track development for them.

Never rated Lord, so that thought hasn't changed for me. Tbf to him we really messed up his development and it's cost him. He'll go to Geelong and become a decent player but won't get anywhere at Port
Players can and need to show something at the lower levels. Lord doesn’t have to kick 5 goals a week, but effort and consistency is key.

How have we messed up his development?

Yup top 2 or 3 for ball transition this year and last. Or something close to that.

you did tend to drop back further last year and let the opposition advance more but this year you’re pressing up higher and coming at the opposition more. It’s working.

You’re well coached and now seem to have some belief. Get some players on the park and you could give finals a shake.

I think you’ll win, although Port will have been stung by that performance against the dons. We’ve also had a longer break and time to train, which we didn’t get prior to the dons game. And we’re shifting to a transition game rather than forward half game, which played into Ross’ plans previously.

Annoyingly, we could have used your win last year. This year, we don’t have our first rounder so desperately need to win, and it looks like you’ll roll us…. 🤦🏻‍♂️

It would be a coming of age story if we did. But not confident.

We just struggle against you blokes. Anywhere anytime really.

Too right there, we pandered to Houston's desires and got nothing back in return other than a shellacking he gave us when the return game occurred. Its professional football for fcku sake!

Also, there should be transfer fees between clubs if footballers chose to bail out of contracts. Those transfer fees should count towards your salary cap too.
Like transfer fees, excellent idea

He should have played many more games over the corpse that was Dixon. Has been overlooked on many occasions stalling his development .

Spot on.

Port have publicly trumpeted themselves as holier-than-thou “People Pleasers FC” in recent years falling over themselves to get people to their preferred destinations, almost wearing it as a badge of honour in lieu of achieving any actual tangible football success - “look what good people we are”.

Well now it’s coming back to bite them big time because players who should be shitting themselves at the thought of asking to leave have no such trepidation because they know they’ll probably be greeted with a hug and a high-five by the cucks running Alberton these days.

Butters is next.

How have we messed up his development?
He was drafted as a key forward. We played him there first 2 years where he, apparently, didn't develop as we'd have liked him to. So then we threw him in defence for a year in SANFL. That didn't work out either. Then out of necessity because of injury he came into AFL and surprised some but has been inconsistent. Then this full offseason he trained in the ruck. We have clearly not put him on a pathway to becoming a pure key forward that even takes leadership of the Magpies forward line and played with his confidence.

We've 100% hindered his development.
