That's what I'd do to although wouldn't be against Cal Ah Chee getting a game. Gunston has been more average than I thought, I know hes got 6 goal but when he doesnt have the ball, he offers nothing.

I doubt I'll be confident against Blues after there big win. They'll be full of confidence thanks to WCE giving them a training run, doubt we can stop Curnow and there quick defence of Saad and Doc is concerning.

Before that game against a severely undermanned WCE, they lost to Adelaide and St Kilda and barely scrapped past 60 points, so they're not necessarily in the best of form either. They're quite one dimensional going forward relying heavily on Curnow in the 50, with McKay needed up the ground because they don't have any other half fowards that can provide that link between their midfield and forward lines.

Dev and Prior in. We could even push Wilmot back and go with Berry/Dev/Prior on the 2 wings. Berry and Dev take turns to mind Cripps in the middle.

Defense will be interesting on whether Lester holds his spot or Joyce comes back in. I'd bring Joyce back personally so we have 3 proper talls to rotate on Mckay and Curnow.

The biggest issue with Gunston is that he provides ZERO forward line pressure. He might be better credentialed than Dan McStay and he might have a higher football IQ, but at least McStay put his body on the line, made a contest and worked hard when the ball was on the deck, when he turned up for a quarter or two.

Not sure we have an obvious match up for Curnow this week. Dizz/Adams would usually be the ones but without them it’s a bit less clear this year. Payne may need to take that job?
I'd start with Joyce on Curnow, Payne on McKay and Andrews on the resting ruck.. we have flexibility with those 3 in the side, Curnow is the one most likely to get off the chain so change it around early if it starts happening.

Could Starcevich go with Curnow? Only 5cm shorter.

Matho has been our best on baller in the twos by a country mile. I cannot see why no one in this thread, up to now, has mentioned him.

I reckon his combined disposal count so far this season would be twice anyone so far mentioned to take Zorko's spot.

I assume people do not watch the reserves games.

Probably because Matho's best role is similar to the roles that Neale, Dunkley and Ashcroft play, unfortunately he is surplus to requirements on the inside, Jarryd Lyons looks like he will be first back up in that area of the field anyway.

Starc was one that interested me as well but I thought he was giving up more height than that so he could be an option. He’s our best lockdown defender for sure and I think our other small defenders could cover their small forwards.

Payne is deceptively quick and could keep up with Curnow IMO. However he would be beaten by agility. Andrews would have to go with McKay due to size and that is where, I believe, Joyce shows better speed and intercepting marking ability to Lester.

What I have seen a difference from this year is Coleman was getting a lot of handball receives from intercept marks and maybe with Rich out there will be a greater use of this. One would think that his reliance of delivery out of our back 50 will sit more on his shoulders. He does need a bit of a breakout game this year to help him get some confidence.

Big defensive work needed in the middle of the ground to try and limit easy entries into Carlton's forward line. Going to be an interesting game to watch.
If we can atleast break even in the middle we should be able to hold them up and force the long and high stuff which will make it easier to defend.
And the versatility of our forward line will be the difference in the game.

The main issue is the delivery to the forwards.Curnow had silver service last night. If we win the midfield battle, hopefully he will be fighting for scraps.

I feel Prior offers us the most defensive pressure out of himself, Dev, Answerth, Lyons, Matho, and Ah Chee so I’d go with him. The complimentary prize would be the green vest.

Joyce vs Lester will be interesting - probably leaning ever so slightly towards Joyce. Between him, Payne, and Andrews they could cover McKay and Curnow. Best case scenario would be for Payne and Joyce to hold their own 1-1 and Andrews floats in between to fill the hole.

Gunston holds his place over Fort. However if Carlton bring in TDK we’ll need Fort as well.

Give Berry the job on Cripps all night.

So for me:

Out: Rich, Zorko, Lester
In: Prior, Dev, Joyce.

This is what I expect, petrified what Saad & friends will do running off od Gunston.

Yep, need Linc on Saad. Hope Linc is ok, looked very sore after that knee on the lower back.

Just need to repeat whatever we did against Melbourne through the middle. And be consistent for 4 quarters.

I think Carlton were resting De Koning this week so I reckon he might be back next week, possibly for Silvagni. I would play Fort chiefly back to take the resting ruckman (De Koning) and we will need Harris to peel off and help out Payne and possibly Joyce who have extremely difficult assignments with Curnow and McKay, they are going to kick a few, we just have to kick one extra.
