He did stick 7 tackles, no Dogs player laid more on the night. Is lacking penetration with his disposals, but soft and bruise free is not right
The shitty loopy handballs have been concerning for me over the last 2 weeks,

Thankfully 2nd halves he has lifted so no real concerns when you consider his age and how many games he has played

Sanders needs a spell. He's bereft of confidence. Playing soft, bruise free footy and looks timid.
Or perhaps he needs continuity.

If he does indeed have a crisis of self confidence then dropping him to the VFL every few weeks won’t help.

It depends on how high they think his ceiling will be. If it’s high they should keep him in the seniors

In terms of his long term development, he could be better off with a couple of weeks in the VFL, playing in the guts, having a mountain of disposals and building confidence.

Not advocating either scenario necessarily, all players are different.

He laid the 7 tackles because he was not strong enough over the footy to pick it up himself. Watch the replay of how many times he arrived to the footy before or at the same time as his opponent but didn't put his body in to win the footy. His hesitation cost us at a few pivotal moments.

Our ideal september backline is? Ill have a crack

bramble, jones, jod
dale, lobb, gags

lobb is so good because he is not a liability in attack. He will get involved. He had 14 disposals, 7 marks and 4 score involvements... 4 doesnt sound amazing until you realize the entire rest of the backline only had 7 total - gags(3), dale(3), bramble (1), buku (0) and duryea (0).

personally I think gags has to be bedded down in the half back spot. Coffield would have to be bashing down the door with 6 weeks of quality VFL form...

I still can not believe how fast Lobb has become the Robin to L.Jones Batman. All because of how effective his ground ball game is. In previous years, it was winning the contested mark contest or bust.

So glad I don't have a mini heart attack every defensive inside 50 nowadays.

I imagine if Jones & JOD are declared fit, they’re straight in. Buku was decent but makes way. Think the other Jones makes way & Williams heads back to the wing. JOD to play on a Silvagni type depending on where they play him.
Dolan has been ok, but think he needs to build up some confidence in the twos. Not sure who comes in for him.
Baker I’m unsure, I didn’t notice too much good or bad for him (I was a few beers in by that time and yelling at the TV about umpiring). Doc really needs to improve, but not sure what the option is there (or do we try Baker?).
Sanders has been really good late, and I imagine Bevo likes players that can run out the games. Hopefully he can do something early that gives him confidence (you can tell the boys are trying to get around him & build him up).

Not disagreeing at all with the two previous posters but can we please , forever, stop mentioning Khamis in the same posts as ones about KPDs. I think he can be a good mid sized defender but KPD? NOOOOOOOOO

What makes you think that? Fritsch has beaten him easy when played on him. Even Gowers kicked 5 goals and missed 6 other shots against him the VFL last year. He's better as a KPD because his ground ball game doesn't stand up against these players.

He is better when he doesn't have an opponent that makes him accountable,

Friday he did well because Cox/McStay were ****ing useless when forward so he could peel off without fear

I don't disagree with that, I was more disputing the whole Khamis is a mid sized defender thing. He's actually worse as a mid sized defender, like you said can have some impact as a KPD. Anyway he's only a backup player and should be dropped this week.

It shows how much we rely on Sam up forward when Bevo uses Astro and even sometimes Freijah in the ruck so Sam can spend more time forward. I agree with the move as we are like a ship without rudder at the moment without Sam forward, as Astro is so hit and miss. We are not getting JUH or the flea back anytime soon.

JOD and Jones in, hopefully Buku stays in as week and we can move Williams back to the wing.

Artie out, he hasn’t don’t much in games and maybe Dolan but means we lose a bit of run

You can’t play Jones Lobb JOD and Buku in the same side
Agree with this, which is why I'd send JOD forward until Croft is ready for his debut, and debut Busslinger for Khamis. Would be a pretty slow backline though given we aren't flush for speedy small-mediums, but that's the case now anyway.

Gotta win this one. Last weeks heart means nothing if we don’t win the games we should like this one. Carlton will come out hard with the threat of 0-3 looming. Their three games after ours (Pies, Eagles, North) are no guarantees anymore.
Narrative I’ve heard is Carlton have lost two but they should win this one 🤨
