He does look like an idiot I guess... but the thing is, there's nothing that unremarkable about what he said, and it's thoroughly understandable.

He's a passionate Hawthorn supporter. Any supporter who says they don't approach issues along the lines of their club loyalty is kidding themselves.

He's no worse than any of us.

The issue here is who the media employs.

My favourite is the inane claim that "she's just making it up". It's obviously based on something.

His tone throughout is insufferable. Who does he think he is to lecture anyone about accountability in journalism? And, as it turns out, he had NFI.

Caro will be sorely missed when she hangs up the boots, she's just about the only footy journo left that isn't part of the boys club and isn't afraid to tread on a few toes and run with stories that aren't popular with clubs or their supporters.

She stuck to her guns with this story despite copping a heap of flack for it and was proven right in the end.

That implies Gerard would have to do some actual investigative journalism than just be a dramatic talking head who fans the flames on topics he chooses because it suits his own agenda for 'the good of the game'.

Let's listen to that interview in light of today's events.

Is there any point where Gerard musters even an ounce of scepticism? His implicit assumption throughout seems to be that Hawthorn would never tell a lie and of course the reporting is flawed.

What she reported was spot on. She was simply doing her job as a journalist. Should she not have reported it at all to avoid potentially "contributing to making a story"?

You should base each story off its merit. She seems to have latched onto something here with a fair bit of truth in it, and well done to her for that.

Forgive me if don't let this story extinguish my memory of the decade long period where she death-rode my club.

To quote the single coherent point that Kane Cornes has ever made:
“They’ve been linked to Gold Coast, they didn’t go, they’ve done an unbelievable job turning their finances around to the point where they are only $400,000 in debt, they’ve built a new facility, they’ve redeveloped the Arden Street precinct and once again Caro for the 100th time has linked North Melbourne to Tasmania.

“Why is it always North? Why not St Kilda who are the AFL’s biggest cash cow along with Gold Coast?”

I think the bitterness that many have towards her is justified. I'm certainly skeptical of her reporting, simply from the fact that I know she has repeatedly reported on my club with a lot of negative bias and disregard for the truth.

A few years back Ben Dixon gave me some info a game to be played that evening between the Hawks and Geelong.
When the game started, I noticed he was completely wrong.
Nice guy, but has no idea when it comes to the Hawks.

There is reporting and there is throwing petrol onto smoldering embers.

Im not a Caro fan. How interesting that the "Tigress lost her stripes" when Cousin's was drafted by Richmond her criticism stopped. Happy to bash the bloke and other clubs, not her own to the same extent.

Journalists are basically mud raking, ambulance chasers 99% of the time so no one should be surprised.

I doubt she not just doing her job but clearly some where utilising her to white ant a few and force the hand of others as part of an agenda.

Do people think Kennett obviously did not mind the effect, amongst others in the shadows?

Caro was allowed off the leash for a reason and was feed for a reason and I think Clarko knew this

Regardless of what you think about the questions asked, that’s almost a current affairs version of victim blaming. How is it his fault if Mitchell lied blatantly?

Pffftttt... righto.

Go back and listen to the interview. Gerard could not have been more compliant or less sceptical. He was too eager to buy the Hawthorn line and too eager to dismiss the work of journalists - didn't he claim to be a journalist at some point? Today on SEN he admitted he was naive.

Absolutely no chance that Caro reporting this influenced Hawthorn into showing Clarkson the door. If they had that much influence North Melbourne would be operating out of the GC and wearing yellow and red with their blue and white.
 
Caroline Wilson was wrong about North Melbourne she let her footy show vendetta and her sources vendetta against JB get in the way of good reporting and she is just being stubborn now; but all of her other reporting is pretty spot on

I never felt Clarko was going to be coach next or at Hawthorn in 2022 as soon they announced his contract wouldn't be extended and the fact Caroline was so adamant made me feel even sure
