I was thinking the same thing. Not sure how it changes the landscape but it is going to be interesting
At least one team has a bye every week and they can't keep 23 games as it doesn't add up. I think they may add in another gather round in WA if they can pull it off logistically- 22 games - 10 H&A + 2 gather - spread out over 25 weeks.

They might even dare to have a gather round in tassie. Split between Hobart and Launceston

Not sure why they don’t just call opening round, Round 1?
That would be even more confusing for the morons who get confused by the concept of Opening Round not having a number - after the opening round teams have their bye, every round number would be one ahead of the game count, ie in round 8, every team would be playing their 7th game.

Yeh it’s so simple when you put it like that

I may have missed something here or I'm not quite getting your point.
As it stands this is what happens anyway. In round 24 every team is playing their 23rd match.
The round number is already ahead of the game count with the current system.

And it's out for the 8 Opening Round teams before they have their first bye. But frankly who cares. It's an extra week of Friday night footy and I think it advantages the Pies to be taking part in it, so bring it on - Round 0 as a numbering system is stupid but who cares.

I'm with you.
I wish the football season ran for 50 weeks.
I don't care what they call it or how they number it. It's extra football and that makes me happy.

After the mid season byes, yes, but before that, there is a brief window when games/round numbers match. It’s a special time of year. Saves a lot of thinking time.

I don’t like opening round.
It’s not because I’m confused about it not having a number.

I just like all teams starting at the same time.

That finally explains why so many are against opening round. The blissful harmony of games matching rounds is shortened as we're out of whack until our first bye and only feel the joy of equilibrium for the shortened period between our byes.

Maybe this explains why I have a phobia of odd numbers.

Why oh why would the Collingwood Football Club send me this???

AFL off season, with Carlton not around you may need a substitute for something else to give you the shits.
