News Bucks set to get 2 year extension

Good decision in my opinion, Bucks will be the coach that leads us to our next flag, good to see we will be showing faith in what he is doing!
I feel less pressure now as well, that being that when ever we have a loss he wont have the thought of being was that my last game in his head.

I'm all for the need for stability. Now that Bucks has his list, there are no excuses.

But a 1-year extension is adequate. It says, "we're willing to back what you've built, but we need to start seeing results".

Finals 2016 is the litmus test, not 2017.
I for one, am happy that the Collingwood board is not sitting on the fence.
They have assessed where the club is (list wise), they have reviewed his overall performance & listened to his future plans. They are obviously happy with him & believe he is the best man to take the next step.
The list has been assembled, the financials are strong, the committee is strong, the Football department is strong.
All of the chess pieces are in place. Now the committee anoints (reanoint?) the coach.
It's a long term plan. The club is on a mission. It's 'all in' folks.

Then what a huge waste of the supporters membership dollars..

We are not Essendon who have paid three full years of salary for a senior coach to not coach in recent years (Knights, Hird's holiday to Paris, Hirds sacking).

We havent sacked a coach midseason since Hafey so if it gets to the situation where we are forced to cut Buckley before his contract ends it will be a rare event. Wont happen because it wont need to happen. We will improve enugh in 2016 to justify 2017.

Would you prefer that money (taxes) go to Brisbane or Carlton?

"If" Bucks fails the money is the least of our problems Kappa!

Bucks won't fail. He will win is a flag.

A man as intelligent and driven as bucks will succeed. People just need to think of a past few seasons as the opening salvos in a chess game, Bucks has all the piece around him, now just needs to get his queens and knights in for the kill.

I have faith in what he's building, we will win a flag with this list within 2 years. I'm sure of it. Heck, with luck we will win in 2016.

I think this is a good decision we have seen the impact free agency has had on multiple clubs and putting our coach in the same situation with no contract isn't the smartest idea, not to make excuses but it's been showed he's had a horror run with injuries we have had our best side on the field for probably 5 games in the last 2 years and he has put together quite a strong side now with the good additions we made in the off season. Also having the issues of josh Thomas and keefe a week before the season began just spelt the bad luck. Last year Reid played 5 bloody games Cloke missed the most crucial part of the season Pendlebury was injured throughout and countless othera

Like you I love Bucks the Collingwood man and I want to be a Bucklieber (sorry) the Coach.

At the moment I am on the fence in his coaching abilities but I get the rational of the extension even if I don't agree (which means f...k all in the scheme of things)

Truth is I am excited about our future and if one Collingwood person deserves a Premiership then Bucks definitely is that man.

I think we are in good hands. Just looking at our list tells me we are very close to what he wants/needs. Our lost looks as good as it has probably since 2010, out injuries seems to be under control, our best footy - with room for heaps of improvement - stacked up against other teams...

Me thinks we are gonna be ok under bucks.

I'm backing this.
The momentum is building that's evident. The results will speak for themselves in due course and sure I still believe Bucks has weaknesses to address but we need the stability and the direction is perfectly sound.
The buy-in from all involved in the club has been very impressive. We seem like a united playing group and club once more.
You only need to see the way Treloar and Aish have spoken this week about the feeling around the place.

Makes sense to me. The game style this year pushed the top clubs. The failures were in intensity against the lesser lights. Experience is the problem here, not the method. The talent infusion this year should take the team on the rise, and a bit of judicious recruiting next year should see them as contenders. (We will need this year to identify the recruiting need to top up: it's not really clear at the moment what we will need. A coach won't be on the list.

If this is true then the club is seriously a basket case.. I mean in what world does a guy get an extension for going backwards every year!!

If bucks wasn't bucks & He was mark neeld, then he would of been sacked in 2014.

If we sign him up & then he fails again in 2016 & we have to pay him out of his contract, then pert & Eddie have to go to..

I really don't see how anyone can think this is a good thing.

Here we go again, come out mick malthouse lovers and Buckley haters. Come out come out where ever you are ;)
Popin you remain thebest cut through poster.
Loved your post.
Here they come.... The love children of malty and the plain unhinged, out they come
Here kitty kitty kitty

Because the club see him as a bomber thompson (8 years to his first flag) or another malthouse ((11 years with us till the flag came) or a yabby jeans (16 years as saints coach, 1 flag) - thats why.
I agree, he has authority, has control, has direction, is planned, is prepared to make tough decisions, he is a rebuild man, etc
Sounds a good enough reasons to me.
The other option is panic, jump at shadows, pick a neeld (yikes!) or the boy scout Bolton (lots of smiles and processes, they will eat him alive in a year or two).
Just maybe, we arent like Richmond, the coaching shuffle gee thats got them results

Very very pleased.
Stops a malty type side show.
I dont care that Nathan will cop theEddie love thing, thats just juvenile commentary.
Nathan is anatural leader.
He will be given his full chance, then history will determine how it all went.

Build build build and the flag(s) will come

Funny you should say that when we have literally gone backwards on the ladder every year under Buckley.

I have no interest in turning this into a Buckley bashing thread, but giving him another contract before we see how he performs in 2016 is pathetic.

If he performs well in 2016 I have no issue giving him the extension then.

Strange views on here. Do you think re-generating the list is done while moving up the ladder? No, it was a necessary by product of improving a list that was not going to win a flag. He is a strong leader and that's what all clubs need. Wrapping him up for longer removes the distracting speculation. Remember why Pendles signed up in advance? That was good enough for everyone, so why not the same joy for Bucks?

Am I missing something. Either you commit or you relegate your club to no man's land and obscurity.

Spot on. The club made a decision to rebuild the list after 2012 and our ladder position in the years that followed reflect that. Bucks has proven himself to be a good match day coach by keeping the side competitive whilst blooding heaps of young talent. That strategy is about to come to fruition and it is right decision for the club to back the man who has overseen it.

Because Pendles is a proven commodity while the jury is still out for Buckley? Can you seriously not see the difference?

For those complaining that the club should wait for the 2016 season to be done before re-signing him, you haven't been watching the AFL industry and how it works recently.
Any loss under those circumstances gets blown out of proportion. There are 12654 AFL journalists and 24 hour news services to feed.
A couple of losses in a row means the media is camped out the front of training.
Players feel under siege, season gets further derailed by constant speculation, Supporters lose their nerve and often so does the club.

The decision before season 2016 begins is: Part ways now or extend now.
Before the predictable, "we should be better than that', well that's nice but not how it works.

Sign him up Ed.

That is just a wrong way to look at it.. Because :

1) the day you sign up a coach because of perceived media pressure then you might as well shut up shop.

2) even if we extend his contract if we are having a terrible year then the media will still be putting pressure on him. Because of his previous poor coaching record

Your opinions and Kappa are not worth the effort I just put in to type this!

Shut the ..... Up.

Im trembling..... face it the lat 5 years have been a disaster yet you want to sign him up for another 2 years on the back of what exactly? I guess you will still be on board if we lose every game next season and demand a 10 year extension. Seriously WTF?

A united club is more important than technical coaching ability. Look at Bomber Thompson: never the best gameday coach, but Geelong recruited well, developed well, stuck together, and all felt they were going in the same direction. As long as the coach isn't a complete moron, he can do well enough to win it. Bucks can get us there. And I think his coaching is underrated, anyway, by people who A: have never actually sat down and analysed the '10 list profile to see why we dropped off and B: are too impatient.

Great news.
