There is a farm in Everton Park with the right dimensions. It is next to road number five. Only one guy owns it and it is mostly flood plain. Ive lived in Everton Park for 15 years and it has never flooded. It is next to the Kedron Brook bikeway. As it is a flood plain it will not be used for housing so the cost shouldn't be huge. Just a thought.
As a kid I was told the land was dodgy. No idea if true or just a ghost story.

Doesn't that guy still milk a few cows?

He's sold off little pieces of that farm over the years for retail outlets etc, but hard to see him selling the lot before he's in a box.

Handy position though.

Everton Park is a big move for a traditionally Southside club.

There is already the Lions club on the southside. We (northside) could have one plus the training facility. Only 8 km to the city...
The commute would be better than Springfield, granted. But many of the players live in the south eastern suburbs (have heard of players living in and around Hawthorne, Bulimba, Balmoral, Carina, Cannon Hill etc).

Ghost Story, my old economics teacher wanted to buy that farm land and turn it into a golf course, but the guy wouldn't sell. I would be all for it though, one for the northsiders at last!! tough being an AFL fan on this side of town.

Also they are building that tunnel from the western suburbs to Everton Park as well "Legacy Way" I think they are calling it.

Yet its still 40 min ;)

Seriously though with QSAC most of the grandstands on the right of that main field and top and bottom can be easily removed, they were always temporary in the first place, just never taken down. Easily enables a widening and building of facilities that wrap around that side of the field. Its actually the other track with the smaller single grandstand that is used for most athletics stuff due to it being much newer.

You can see the dots joining there given the QAS is there as well so you can put the whole dual purpose spin on it and some of the budget can be allocated from the the whole comm games development budget in order to give our athletes the best chance at our home comm games. Theres a lot of concurrent lines that can be drawn there that make the chances of getting some state funding there regardless of the party.

You won't be able to have two fields but given you are able to do all your running pre season and in season work right next door on an actual running track I don't really see it as an issue.

Why do we need an MCG size oval we only play there once a year?
I think you'll find that an MCG sized Oval 2 would be a secondary or tertiary goal for a new training facility. A nice thing to have, but by no means necessary.

Can someone tell me if all other AFL clubs have 2 ovals as part of their training facilities. What do Gold Coast have?

They're out of Metricon I believe, where they've got the main oval and then another training one to the side. They're still waiting on a training & admin base too I think, pretty sure most of their operations are out of demountables.

Yep, we've got Metricon Stadium plus a similar sized training ground 20 metres away. While we wait for the Comm Games upgrade to the Metricon Stadium precinct, we're training out of shitbox demountables. We also have an indoor sports stadium, but I don't know how often that's used (if at all).

I know we do a lot of training at Broadbeach too, based out of the Kurrawa SLSC.

From an outsider, what's the go with the Lions and their deal with the Gabba? I'm assuming it's not a very good situation considering this thread is all about moving elsewhere. Is this an initiative from the club itself, or just something the fans have thought up? Very interested in Lions stuff as I'm a fan of AFL in QLD in general.

They were state of the art facilities 15 years ago, and nothing's been done since. It costs us multiple millions in rent to have it as our training and admin base. In other words it's shit on two counts, being expensive crap.
