Put a line through Cuners and Marchbank. I wish it wasn’t this way, but their bodies aren’t up to the rigours of AFL. I suppose we knew this last year but weren’t willing to cut them, probably because we didn’t have the picks etc to get someone decent.

Martin is much the same. And I would pay out his contract. I doubt anyone will be seeking to pick him up, unless Darren Burgess at Adelaide wants to test his skills.

Gov at least has gotten on the ground. Maybe 12 weeks of Gov is worth keeping him on the list.

Especially 12 weeks straight from round 17 …

I am a strong critic but the return to skills training is fine for me- usually means another couple then full training then games. 3-4 weeks usually.

The bit that would be great is to get a good over view of the over all approach for the guys who keep breaking down.
So why not just say 3-4 weeks. A ball park return estimate is all the average supporter would care about.

I'm starting to agree a bit more transparency would be ideal. Am I meant to know what returning to skill training means, and why Cuningham would be doing that after returning a couple of weeks ago.
IIRC DC was having calf issues late last year after the ACL recovery
Lol Adelaide have only 1 player on their injury list and it's someone I've never heard of so their best 32+ players are fit and ready to go...

Brisbane have 4 but they are all no names.

Just once could we have that kind of luck....would love to see how we perform with a proper good run with injuries.
Darren Burgess
Deadset hand the guy a blank cheque. Not even slightly joking. It will change our lives.

Think Adelaide did (family reasons as well). Saw the opportunity & seized, after the MFC success & that beforehand.

I think people are rightly getting frustrated with the recurring injuries to the same players, many of whom we were told were on individual training plans designed to get the best out of them. So far those efforts have amounted to very little in particular for Cunners, Marchy and Martin who between them have played the combined sum of 1 league and 1 reserves game since the start of March.

Also there are some transparency issues creeping in, for example:
- Voss said “No, no he’s ok, it was just precautionary” when asked if Gov was injured after the North game only for him to miss 1 probably 2 games. At best it was naive - how would he know straight after the game without seeing how the injury settled - at worst he was lying.
- we’ve been told Martin has been a test to play the last few weeks only to be now told he is being introduced to skills training next week which suggests he is still a way off
- same as the above for Cunnners
- we were told last week Marchy was back training again last week but we now know that meant reintroduced to skills training which also implies he is still a way off having already missed 8 week

I regularly complain about our injury prone players, there is a lot to get angry about.

I would like our injury updates to be more regular and lots of people complain we don’t here enough.

The club then releases an update and the goal posts then shift, the people who complain about not getting an injury update are now complaining that they just flatly don’t believe it.

If Gov plays this week, he misses one game, that’s what you’d expect from a late withdrawal, the messaging in regards to Cotts and Boyd has been accurate and clear, the messaging in regards to Walsh was spot on.

The other guys are made of tissue paper and it might actually be hard to give consistent updates because they have regular setbacks.

We can be better but what was released today is what everyone has been saying they wanted.

I struggle to understand the greater transparency line.

No injury has a set timeline, only estimates, as they all respond differently to rehab and workloads.

Not sure how more detailed a report should be, instead of returning to skills work, unless people want to know each drill a player is involved in.

Anyway, hopefully with most of our injured players not far away, we start to get better continuity and a better calibre of player back on the park

I think we can do a lot better but the detail in todays update is fine for me, I don’t think it’s hard to do a release weekly or fortnightly that states Cunners has had a setback or Martin is struggling to increase workloads.

Voss would have no idea of the severity of any injury or niggle straight after any game so it would be good to just say, we will see.

So say Martin is on $400K next year. You pay him out and we are starting out with $400K less in our salary cap. We have no 2nd and 3rd rounder this year so your probably looking at a pick in the 70's or 80's for his replacement.

I know that we are disappointed with his injury history but it's a bit like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Hoping he gets a good run when he gets back to make it a moot point.

Martin isn’t the best examples because he gets up for 10 or so games a year but isn’t a total waste.

But say we did get rid of a contracted player who can’t get on the park, forget pick 60 or 70 or whatever, we picked up Gibbons and Cottrell who came in and made solid AFL contributions, the Saints this year added Stocker and Caminniti, these guys were added after all the drafts and are playing each week on the lowest contracts.

The equation should be closer to, how many games to we expect Martin to play versus what we can get, to me a player who can actually put his hand up to play wins.

There is plenty of talent there.

Last year the injuries were concentrated on the defenders, then the midfield. Now it's the rebounders.

Yeah yeah, injuries are a part of the game and all that. But can we have an injury to one person on another line (or someone who we can cover), rather than the same area (and to our most important players at that)?

Sick of this shit.

Luck is only a small part of it. The only unlucky injury we maybe have is Doc and his knee. You could argue Saad too who is the ultimate professional in looking after his body so soft tissue injuries should be rarer for him.

We could have avoided this by not taking on and retaining the plethora of injury prone players we have. We made our own luck with those list management decisions.

The club has done a fantastic job with engagement/messaging thru social media, time for medical to get on board.
It would be a lot cleaner to come out with “he’s had a tweak, we will monitor the situation & utilize the best medical advice. It’s likely 1-2 weeks.
Instead of “it’s tightness”.
If the player gets up the next week, then great, if not then you’ve managed expectation & reinforced that the clubs following best practice.
They need to do better

Why did we get the tall Durdin??
Sam is a genuine option, but not this week. They will have a forward line with undersized Membrey as the key, with at best Cordy offering the other genuine height. Rely on Owens and Phillipou for height with Wood drifting forward from a wing.

Weiters and Young going nowhere. McGovern or Kemp with mobility and a dash of speed far better option than an extra big boppa for this one.

Newman, Weitering, Young, Cowan, McGovern (if fit), Cincotta, I am playing Kemp as 7th defender, who should match up well on Phillipou or the more dangerous Owens. They probably will retain Plowman with more experience in the structures over three inexperienced at the level (Moo, Cinc, Kempy) our coaching is very conservative.

I do not want to see six defenders plus a repurposed mid, particularly when playing a couple of tyros.

Even saying something equally as nothing as "Yeah he felt a little niggle or pull there so we thought we'd shut him down for the game" would be better imo. I don't expect him to have a full medical report right after the game but you'd know the difference between tightness and a 4 week calf - not the full extent just that it's obviously more than tightness.

Saying tightness indicates to the fan they're ok it was just precautionary, so when it turns out they're actually out for weeks I can understand people feeling miffed.
