been listening to the new meshuggah on youtube. doesn't totally grab me at this stage, but then i could say the same about their other albums which i then enjoyed.

song they released possibly the worst one on the album? a couple of standouts (i like 'swarm'), and a few songs that end up in that slow groove ala the early song.
I wasn't impressed with the early tracks but after listening to the full album a few times I'm enjoying it. Not their best album and it won't convert anyone who hates their sound but I like it.

For any tech death fans the new Gorod leaked recently. Not as good as their last album I don't think but still better than the new psycroptic and spawn of possession IMO.

Also Melbourne band Elysian are streaming their debut here. Melodic death with some progressive elements and a bit of technicality mixed in. A few similarities to Allegaeon if you've heard those guys. Worth checking out.

Been listening to the Elysian stream. Loving track 2 "The climb from fear", awesome prog, melo mix.......

melbourne's own whoretopsy

has the slamming death metal thing which i normally hate but this is more interesting.

I seriously have been smashing this song at work lately.

Also been listening to the original Conan the Barbarian Soundtrack too.

Obviously not metal but just as emotionally gripping. Basil Poledouris is a genius.

Both great stuff. I think Summoning are working on a new album, too...

had a friend rant and rave about them to me. i gave a few albums a listen and seriously can't get into them at all.

So much groove on this album. Much more 'listenable' straight up than some of their stuff.

for sure! never come across a band like meshuggah before where there doesn't seem to be a general consensus on what their best album is.

I'm with Ed.....cannot get Summoning on any level.

New Accept - 8/10...very Metal Heart (more melody, mid paced song structures and focus on 'songs');

New Overkill 8.5/10 (Ironbound part 2...with a couple of real old school 'Feel the Fire' type moments!!!)

New Paradise Lost 7/10. Its true - if you like doom and metal you should like this album. Heavier and darker than Faith Divides Us...but not 100% sure the quality of songs is there across the board...

New Aura Noir - 7.5/10. Dirty, dirty blackend-thrash metal this...taking some time to grow on me but given their pedigree and track record of awesomeness its still got riffs a plenty...

New Be'lakor on the way......new Kreator on the freakin way and its sounding bloody good, new Before the Dawn on the way.... and the best news of the year for Dee...NEW SATURNUS to be released later this year! Anyone who is not familiar with this genius of a band needs to do themselves a favor and get involved.

Re paradise lost, is the albunm out? I've only heard crucify, did you get it on the 'net' or buy it, I want it!

Can't wait to hear the new moonspell also.

No its not out yet.....It was leaked on the net for a little while which is where I heard it, but is no longer there. If you go to youtube there is still an entire album sample which might have 20-30 seconds of every song on it. Lasts for about 5 minutes. Type in Tragic Idol 2012 or something like that and you will find it.

Yeah actually that Moonspell song did sound good...

once read fernando's vocals from moonspell described as 'trying to seduce everything', haha. spot on really.

i have a soft spot for sin/pecado. also butterfly effect though the goth tendencies and lyrics can be nauseating (see the song 'selfabuse'). really do love pecado though.

seen agalloch tonight. they sounded absolutely brilliant too.

played a decent mix off their new one, pale folklore, the mantle and ashes against the grain. it's hard to nit pick about missing songs cause there are too many. although i would loved to have heard fire above, ice below.

i was never really that sold on their new album but after hearing some of the songs live i think i'm going to love it the next time i give it a spin. they played stuff like hallways of enchanted ebony, limbs, falling snow, in the shadow of our pale companion, dead winter days, kneel to the cross etc....

fen were really good too, velnias didnt really grab me.

one major drawback is that the venue is ****ing shit. one of those venues where there is about 5 or 6 concrete poles in the way and the floor is on a gradual slope going down the way away from stage, which made it hard for a lot of people to see.

Sounds great Ed. Did they play "Not Unlike the Waves" though...their finest moment?
