Before he leans into him you can see a knee which triggers it off. I don’t follow either so unbiased here. I’m just against all the stuff that happens from behind from players as it triggers players reactions. Elbow’s doesn’t look great but he reacted not instigated it from the vision I seen.

Any chance the league could establish a relationship with umpiring organisations in surrounding leagues??

All associations struggle to have enough for full panels. So by taking some from say Riddell Umpires for Eastern Bloc games would just weaken the panels for Riddell.
It should be noted that it was field umpires only, goals & boundaries appointments were fulfilled. U/18s you can get away with having umpires double up into either or Central Highlands or Maryborough Castlemaine, but an umpire doing ressies doesn’t have the time to travel between grounds. And unlike goal umpires, field umpires doubling up ressies into Seniors is not a thing.

That’s between the clubs and the league. Pretty sure the umpires don’t get paid if they’ve not provided the service.
Speaking of affiliation fees, does anyone know anything about an apparent 20-30k hit to the league’s budget with 1 club less, plus Sunbury no under 18s?

If I read that right, chuck in another $500 on top of that season fine for each away game to compensate the home club.
If you have nine away games that takes it up to $22,500.

George got 3 ??? Was offered the early guilty plea of 4. Decided to fight it and gets 3. FFS.

Great story with Simon Lafranchi reaching 200 games. Been a mainstay at the Bacchus Marsh since 2010 without much fanfare. Always thought he was an unsung hero of that flag in 2016.

I know a fair few that have played with him over the years & haven’t heard a bad word said about him.

Going off scores they seem to have been tight contests between some pretty handy sides.

Top 4 have a fair bit on the rest of the competition I’d say. Ballarat, Marsh and North to fight for 5th and 6th

Redan can count themselves unlucky to have only 1 win so far. Looked like a really competitive team against Darley last week. Very young also. Think they’ll win more in the back half of the year

Totally agree. They’ve been very competitive this year and can certainly cause some headaches in the second half of the year. if they can keep this young list together, they’ll be a force in the near future

So with Gisborne finally making public their interest in joining the Ballarat league, there's now plenty to be discussed before any decision is finalised.

Interesting to see in The Courier that not all Ballarat based clubs have immediately accepted Gisborne's potential arrival as a good thing.

Also interesting to see this quote in the Bendigo Advertiser today:
"We've been working on it for about 10 months. John (Wood, former president) and I went up there (to Ballarat) last year for a look and to be honest, I didn't think there'd be a chance because I didn't like the people on the board, so we let that slide," Brancatisano said this week.
"Then we heard there was a re-shuffle of their board and they reached out again, so we put a working party together to look at everything and recently interviewed their board."

Not sure the Bulldogs president will be helping convince doubting clubs in Ballarat by immediately attacking the setup. From the outside it looks like Gisborne need the Ballarat FNL more than the league needs the club.

Any league would have to have rocks in their heads not to welcome Gisborne with open arms.

Watching them up close for the past couple of years they are a great club across the board and would make any competition better.

Agreed, but everybody knows self interest can sabotage good ideas. Eastern Bloc clubs have been in the BFL for almost 30 years yet they're still unwelcome to many Ballarat based footy people. Predominantly because there's always two or three being successful at any given stage, by the way.

If the self interest extends to bank balance they will get on board. Massive contingent of supporters for footy and netball who travel each week. Lots of money to be made for home games against them.
