It’s the travel mate that makes them play at other teams. As previously stated don’t be surprised if Sunbury Lions move to Riddell in coming years.
Travel certainly becoming an issue now.
My 3 come where I’m coaching and do footy/netball simply around the logistics and costs to send them elsewhere.

User pays world now so as consumers we all have the right to pick n choose how we digest our extra curricular activities.
Loyalty no more a thing to draw on or sell, its coming down to value for money and time invested as much as anything else involved.

I think if Gisborne, Bacchus melton and darley joined and it was a 2 division comp would be the only way it happens

Sunbury wont move. Theres really not a spot for them. Would dominate Riddell, and cant afford Essendon. Marsh, Darley and Melton more than happy in Ballarat. Standard, Grounds and what happens to Ballarat if they leave. Just cant see it happening anytime soon if at all.

Clubs supplying their own umpires for this weeks reserves games? Not sure if this is a common trend but thought it’s an issue the Ballarat league wouldn’t have?

Sunbury got offered a spot in the EDFL years ago and knocked it back because it was only for division 1 and not premier. I can’t see them moving any time soon. They would be observing how it’s working out for the other Sunbury teams in the EDFL. If the lions struggle with numbers in the under & If Gisborne stays in the Bendigo FNL could we see Sunbury move there? Eventually something will have to give. Tough it out with no 18s. Or head for EDFL or Bendigo ?

Geelong footy league has had club umpires in the ressies for at least the last 15 years. I’m surprised most leagues don’t have club umpires to be honest

What occurred at Redan vs Bacchus as reported on the news. Incident on field near end of game “off the ball”
George elbowed Marshes new recruit Fulton in the jaw. It was a centre bounce near the end of the game. Knocked him out cold. Very ordinary act. 4 to 6 at least.

Ordinary act that. Any jaw or facial damage? 4 to 6 weeks seems less than perhaps required. Perhaps there needs to be a suspension given in line with the time to victim misses ie injuries mean same weeks out give the assailant a suspension subject to when the victim resumes.

Didn't get knocked out. He got up after a few seconds and walked off the ground alongside the trainers. Hard to tell how much of the elbow the Marsh player got, but unless he is acting, George will have a few weeks holiday.

Fair bot of carry on post game by George and some old bloke. Any repercussions from that?? Not a good look

Not an ideal situation, but a few away for school holidays.

The BFUA have lost a few over the summer and word is that they hired a new coach who didn’t engage well enough soon enough to keep them. That new coach was gone just before the season started, read into that whatever you want.

Regardless of those shenanigans, some of the older guys who would normally do ressies look like they’ve finally retired, and some of the younger ones that were coming through have either left the area for education or decided that they preferred to play rather than umpire, as they could combine both with junior footy on Sundays and umpiring on Saturdays. Now they’ve moved up to U/18s or Senior footy, they can’t do both.

All valid points you make.

Just a very poor look for a high quality competition, regardless if its reserves.

Any chance the league could establish a relationship with umpiring organisations in surrounding leagues??

Not a great look and glad the player is ok.

Watch the incident closely and leading up to it the Bacchus player puts a knee into George from behind which triggers the reaction. Yes elbow isn’t great but if you do this type of sh&& to someone from behind you surely expect a reaction. Both players should be suspended. If George gets weeks so should the Bacchus player.

Shocking take Turbo.

BM player leans into him. No kneeing whatsoever

I’d give him 5-6 weeks based on that footage
