Best 23 in 2025

Allan sure, but Parker would be a very, very considerable length in front of Jiath in terms of forcing his way into the side.

Jiath looked lost a lot of the time even at VFL level - I think if he's going to make it as an AFL player it's not going to be soon.
Parker is the more likely. He will play a lot of footy next year I reckon.
Jiath I think will just take some time.

Agree with most on here, Allan, Parker and Reef not to start in the best 23 but they’d be my 3 next in line, and expect them to play a lot of footy next year

Que? There’s a very real chance he won’t even be on the list.

That was hard and I still cheated by picking 24.

No risks taken in the Herald Sun's best 23. It's probably our clear best 23 at this point in time. Trade period and pre-season may shift selections ahead of round one

I don't reckon we'll have a sub in 2025. Most coaches want it gone, if not all.

B: Brayden Maynard - Billy Frampton - Jeremy Howe
HB: Will Hoskin-Elliott - Darcy Moore - Isaac Quaynor
C: Jack Crisp - Nick Daicos - Josh Daicos
HF: Beau McCreery - Brody Mihocek - Bobby Hill
F: Jamie Elliott - Dan McStay - Lachie Schultz
R: Darcy Cameron - Jordan De Goey - Harry Perryman
I: Scott Pendlebury - Tom Mitchell - Mason Cox - Patrick Lipinski - Steele Sidebottom

Needs:
  • I'm one of the biggest advocates for Dan Houston and he's priority 1. It's been said plenty of times but it would be like having a second Nick Daicos. He'd be our second best player and immediately get us back to an elite scoring team from defence, which we were in 2023.
  • it's unlikely we find a clear upgrade on Frampton at this stage, I'd at least like to add some competition to make him and Dean work harder to earn games. Any one of Tomlinson, Lewis Young or James Blanck would be handy.
  • list spots will be tight. If either or neither of the above works out, I'd like to add a key forward that can chop out ruck. Ollie Lord would be a cost-friendly trade for the future, and Sam Day would be a quick, cheap pick-up for the now. McStay and Mihocek have only played together 12 times, Kreuger's fitness is less reliable (if he's even listed next year) and I wouldn't like to see Johnson or McInnes have to shoulder a key forward role again.

I'm gonna quote a poster - apologies I can't remember who it was specifically - but in their words, the positional dominoes that fall as a result of getting Houston are massive. Hoskin-Elliott remains primarily in the wing/forward depth but can still be sparingly used behind the ball. Josh remains on the wing where I believe his best footy is played, Q's attacking work load lessens and he can become better defensively. Crisp could be an afterthought as opposition are too worried about Nick, Houston and Jordy.

A very good team that is as good as the list we had in 2023, if not better. The only clear downgrade is the second defensive post.

B: Brayden Maynard - Darcy Moore - Jeremy Howe
HB: Dan Houston - Billy Frampton/Adam Tomlinson* - Isaac Quaynor
C: Josh Daicos - Nick Daicos - Jack Crisp
HF: Beau McCreery - Brody Mihocek - Bobby Hill
F: Jamie Elliott - Dan McStay - Lachie Schultz
R: Darcy Cameron - Jordan De Goey - Harry Perryman
I: Scott Pendlebury (M/W/HB) - Will Hoskin-Elliott (W/F/B) - Mason Cox (R/F) - Patrick Lipinski (W/F) - Tom Mitchell (M)

Depth from: Tomlinson*/Frampton, Dean, Allan, McInnes, Membrey*/Hayes*, DeMattia, Parker

Yeah, really strong first 25/6.

Hopefully can find a couple or 5 (counting in-house) more for depth

I will go with this but think we may opt for another tall defender. The 23 pick themselves really. Hopefully Allan, Parker and Demattia + others really push for selection

We will be a far better side if Allan is pushing blokes like Sidey and Titch for regular AFL minutes next year.

My hope is they prepare him for 15+ games

There are always injuries so there'll be opportunities for guys like Allen.

And the fact that all are aging players are two years older

Howe Frampton Maynard
Houston Moore Quaynor
Jaicos Naicos Crisp
McCreery McStay Hill
Schultz Mihocek Elliot
Cameron JDG Mitchell
Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Perryman, Cox
Sub : WHE
Lipinski next in line

That's assuming everyone is fully fit , I reckon people underrate how good a fit Mitchell was in 2023 , he was huge in the grand final . Also we are much better side when Cox plays the stats show that .

Frampton is our biggest weakness , we need to gamble on Tomlinson or whoever else as back ups
