FB: Impey, Barrass, Scrimshaw
HB: Amon, Battle, Jiath

HF: Moore, Sicily, Day
FF: Watson, Chol, Hardwick
Foll: Meek, Newcombe, Worpel
Int: Nash, Ginnivan, Macdonald, Gunston

From various reporting on Sam’s views, Sicily will be an occasional forward.
Ramsden seems to be doing well pre-season playing as a forward.
Add Ramsden, Remove Jiath

INT: Nash, Finn/Morrison, MacKenzie, Mcdonald, Jiath

EMG: Breust, Ward, Reeves

kirbatron ... I would think that this one is pretty close. Maybe replace Finn/Morrison with Frosty on the bench.

So based on the above post that would leave four spots available from a pool of players who would consider themselves a good shot for a game in the opening round. That pool includes; Morrison, Reeves, Frost, Jiath, Gunston, Maginess, Breust, Ward, Mackenzie, Serong, Ramsden, Mitchell and Hustwaite. So that’s thirteen players knocking on the door. I haven’t included Butler because he hasn’t played seniors for a long time, likewise Bailey MacDonald. The contenders either played significant minutes in the seniors last season or were good at Box Hill for extended periods. So thirteen in four doesn’t go and that doesn’t factor in the mid season inclusion of Dear and Lewis or the extra depth of Blanck. Can’t see anyone else in line for a call up first up. Anyone disagree?

When does salary cap issues kick in probably not till after 2026 if Gunston and bruest retire
You'd have to think Newk will be in for a huge payday when his current contract expires.

Although player payments are increasing as part of the new EBA so that will absorb some salary cap pressure.

Generally the Hawks are pretty good at managing the salary cap which is an underrated part of winning a premiership.

Very interested to see how our forwards do this year. I think an underrated part of having a good back/forward line is you get to train against bloody good players and hopefully improve. For example, Chol and Ramsden doing ‘ok’ against Battle and Barass and others holds them in great stead to do much better against weaker defensive units.

Very excited about how the squad pulls together this year!

Best emergencies in the competition.

All 3 left their mark on our most recent September campaign.
For me it was Morrison, Magginess vs Breust, Gunston. Since this is an opening round prediction I went with the vets.

It's rather difficult to pick a best 22. There are many players that are pushing hard for a spot and having strong preseasons. All my listed emergencies (and some others) are right on the cusp of selection.

B: Sicily Barrass Scrimshaw
HB: Jiath Battle Impey
C: D'Ambrosio Nash Mackenzie
HF: Hardwick Chol Moore
F: Watson Gunston Ginnivan
Fol: Meek Newcombe Day
Int: Weddle Amon MacDonald Worpel
Sub: Maginness
Emg: Ramsden, Ward, Breust, Morrison

My prediction is probably wrong but the thought here was maybe they want to give Barrass and Battle ownership off the backline and see how it goes. Ramsden they might want to pump him up and make him the guy in the 2s and see how he goes, big game your in. Finally Sis, Hardwick and Day all played in the same third before and have that connection, I wonder if that connection will play a big part with names being thrown around.

If needed during the game it could be corrected with jiath off as sub sis back and Breust into the fold.

I’d go the opposite. Both Morrison and Maginess stood up in our finals campaign, just signed new contracts where they could have gone elsewhere and are now hitting their peak physically, I’d back them in.
The small SCG would also suit Morrison’s game, whereas Maginess could be used to shut down a number of Sydney midfielders.

Yeah I originally had it that way as well but seeing our premiership champs listed as emg just didn't sit well with me. Made the change and put them in and went and had a soapy shower to rinse off.

I’d like Sam to give Harry a decent crack at making the wing spot his own at some stage this year.

He just knows where to run to and when he gets the ball he’s usually super clean with his disposal.

Failing that Harry is always a super reliable option as substitute, he can play all three lines very competently.

Is Mitch Lewis training yet?

Is he any chance for round one?

A fit Lewis allows Dear to be the sidekick and Chol to play resting ruck forward - and we win the flag
He's in the US with Blanck at the moment. Probably not for Round 1, but tracking a lot better than originally thought.

from now?
All I heard was he had a recent scan and was told at the time it will mean 4 months off.

I presume that’s from the date of the new scan, but it could possibly mean since the injury was first detected.

I read that Frosty played in the scratchy on our Training Camp.

Is he right for the first round* or does he miss the first couple?

*I refuse to acknowledge 'Round 0' so will just refer to it as the first round.
