I'd say the coach is feeling the pressure, if they don't make finals this year, they'll go for a change of direction

I have heard from a good source at the club they have already had conversations with people to potentially coach in 2026 which I can understand.
Not sure what the feeling is like, but maybe little faith in getting the ultimate prize?

Is strath he's second club? If so I've got no problem with it. If it's purely a one off for round 1 only, I don't think it's great. If he wants to be involved let him be the runner.

I reckon there would 10 guys on the brink of a senior debut, that have trained all summer and not missed a session, to be overlooked if it's a one off and it's desperation, strath are a strong club, I reckon it goes against why they started a senior team, if strath aren't he's second side.

Second club is a VFL process because there's no Reserves grade. SANFL players don't need a second club as they have a Reserves grade.
No SANFL this week while Gather Round is on so Gill is free to play. Assume it's on permit.

Doesnt sound any different to having the Coburg captain play 2 games?

In fact it’s better, at least strath is his own home club and he trained most of pre season season and is aligned to the club no different to any other vfl player.

Will be interesting to see fall out internally but surely the optics externally cant be as harsh as some of the comments being made above?

Every game seems must win for most teams this year

Most teams have had vfl players and Coates league players come in and out in a similar fashion over the last few years.

If you don’t have few guys disappointed every week then your club probably isnt contending is it?

There has been alot of anticipation about the improved showing of South Bendigo this year and the first few games for them will give a good idea of where they are at. It would be great for the league to see them come up the ladder and play finals. Round 1 at home against S/Saye is huge as they play away to Gisborne and Castlemaine in Rd 2 and 4 respectively which are always difficult assignments ( especially Gisborne). They play Eaglehawk at home in between them and then Sandhurst. If they can come out 3 and 2 after 5 rounds they could finish top 4 as they play K/Flat 3 times post Round 5 and 10 or 11 wins gets Top 4 most years in BFL. Bring on the season and good luck to all teams and the volunteers that make it possible.

Really hope they take the next step. Credit where credit is due, they have done an amazing job of challenging the status quo and making something happen. I just want to see the results follow now

Any names big John? For a club of that power they do seem somewhat under resourced coaching wise. Respect to their current coach for getting them within a kick of a grand final last year but you’d think they’d have big plans ahead?

I find it hard to believe Daniel Gash hasnt been approached to coach in Bendigo, superb record. Also told by a bloke who played under him at Wedderburn he was the most particular planning coach he played under. Im presuming he is still in Bendigo in saying that though.

Eaton not named for Square - has he officially gone?
And looks like Gisborne feeling the pinch of the inclusion of a new team in town - only 14 named in both the 2’s and 18’s.
Looks to be very little depth at any club with Sandhurst being the exception - that said they’ve only named 19 in the 2’s as well.

Not sure the new Gisborne team is making that much of an impact. Rob Kerr who coached their 17/18s for a couple of years is coaching PEGS in the VAFA and recruited a couple of good young players, add to that they didn’t have a heap of players going up from 17s to 18s and things compound quickly. They have always lost kids to the local 19.5 competition when the come out of 18s.

Surely South and Strath don’t care too much about it either way and it’s a beat up on Big Footy by people not involved or in the know?

I was heading to the QEO but I might head to the South Strath game if there is going to be a live coach sacking because I don’t see Strath winning even with them flying in people.

Hopefully the south powers to be have added up their match payments and calculated their points correctly this year. Club and coach with priors.

It’s only half time but unless they find a way to clone Hartley I don’t see Castlemaine troubling too many deep in September.

Will be very competitive home and away team that should make finals though which is a great effort by them.

Watched the last quarter (of the reserves) and it looked like Castlemaine had the depth not Sandhurst and the scores reflected it

Pop quiz...when was the last time Castlemaine defeated Sandhurst? . I got there in '14 with Robbo, the ressies got pumped by everyone Barr Maryborough each of my 3 season involvement...again when I came back a couple of years later...same scenario. Well done to the magoos from the camp .
