Those playing the ‘are certain clubs getting special treatment’ game will have been interested in today’s netball announcement.

The press release gushed:

The Bendigo Football Netball League is thrilled to share a historic event for local netball as Kangaroo Flat and Sandhurst take to the court in a curtain-raiser for the Melbourne Vixens in their upcoming pre-season home game against the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic at Red Energy Arena.

Hmmmmm something not quite right there but I can’t put my finger on what……

Our fearless leader The Professor goes on:

"We’re incredibly proud to see Kangaroo Flat and Sandhurst represent our league in such a significant event,".

Yes, two great teams going head to head on the big stage. Grand Final rematch is on!

Except it’s only the preliminary final rematch, because the Grand Final was won by Gisborne.

Surely though our truly independent board would have offered the game to the A Grade premiership team, who have earned the right to be there, and they must have declined, allowing Sandhurst to step up and enjoy this wonderful exposure?

I’ll give you one guess what actually happened.

Yep and people here will say blah blah whinging and no one will care much because it’s netball, but can anyone imagine a scenario where Carlton and Collingwood announced a practice game at the QEO, and the premiers weren’t even asked if they want to play the curtain raiser?

Don’t know how else it can be described apart from straight out promoting one club’s interest.

Who should play?

Maybe they did offer it to the premier team? Maybe they offered to the clubs who have provided so many players and coaches to the level above??

Maybe just maybe you have no bloody idea?

For someone who doesn’t give 2 shits you really do whinge a lot

I thought I did but here’s the synopsis.

Region offered chance to play curtain raiser before Vixens preseason game.

Region selects Kangaroo Flat who finished runner up and Sandhurst who finished third. A grade premiership team Gisborne left out and I was told by a Gisborne person today they were not asked to play.

I was told they were asked to play and knocked it back due to the commitments of their players

How would you know?

I may have been speaking to someone who may know just like your boy Forest reckons he was told something

I just don’t understand why you blokes think you know more than anyone else on here??

Who cares what your real names are or what “you’ve done”.

There are heaps of great footy people in here who know lots of different stuff

Personally, I’d love to have seen Gissy play. They are the benchmark.

At a guess, K-Flat and Sandhurst supply three quarters of the Bendigo Strikers team, 8 of 12 or 13, so a good opportunity to showcase both the league and the local VNL affiliation.

I’m happy to stand by my contribution to the game and indeed the forum and let others be the judge.

As has been said you’ve rarely offered anything except cheap criticism of other posters, and given your post on the talent league shows a great capacity to think critically about the game, I’d suggest that makes you a troll.
No you're not. Anyone truly happy with what they've done doesn't carry on with the garbage you do.

Caught out in a lie to justify your unhinged ranting again. They were asked, declined due to player availability.

Spoke to a club rep this morning.
While I see no conspiracy, the Bulldogs were not asked to be part of the day.
As stated earlier, the heavy Strikers representation among Sandhurst and K-Flat would likely have been a big factor.
Pretty much eight players in a squad of 13, plus one from under 23s.

Is that fair on the Gisborne players? Maybe travel was so too much for them too, you'd think many Gisborne players work in Melbourne.

I don't think anyone is against maine, this is turning into Bendigo v maine, all guys on here are very knowledgeable about their footy, it's not a pissing contest though, roota and forest both know their stuff and I'm sure both were told credible info,

The bulk - almost al of the Gisborne players play VNL too, all but one for a Melbourne-based team, so perhaps unfair on them.
I think there's something else at play here too.
The Vixens just signed a Sandhurst player (Charlotte Sexton) so makes sense having her local club play from a pathways perspective and an example to locals of what can be achieved.
Backtrack four or so months and Flat signed two former Vixens (one Flat born and bred), so there is that link too.
While Gisborne has won the past two flags and with no disrespect to the Bulldogs at all, Sandhurst-Flat has been the top rivalry in local netball for the past half dozen years.
Again no disrespect to Gisborne, who are a great team and club, but I'm sure if you asked girls on both sides who they'd like to beat most, Sandhurst would say Flat and Flat would say Sandhurst.
It's a pretty compelling case as to why those teams were chosen.
At their current rate though, Gisborne might well become that team others want to beat.

PS I have no problem with anyone's parochialism on here, be it Maine or any other team.

For me it comes down to the simple fact they are the premiers and deserve the respect that goes with it.

Giving Sandhurst the spot without even offering it to Gisborne is at best ignorant and at worst outright nepotism. Either way it’s another example of a lack of competence in HQ.

With respect, therein lies the problem.
It's not a matter of just one fact; there are plenty of factors behind the decision, including having a Vixens player's home club represented on the day.
Not arguing Gisborne's worthiness, they are more than worthy. But it's hard to ignore other factors.

And if there was a special stand-alone game that was given to the premiers in the football you clowns would be rocking back and forth in the fetal position screaming how unfair it is.

Let me ask you this then, if it was football do you think they would have turned over Sandhurst for Square because Essendon was playing and Toma was aligned when he played there?

You didn’t answer my question. You’ve called me a liar so be man enough to back it up.

Would love to think that at board they spend time talking about the rantings of the tin hat brigade from the Maine then piss themselves laughing. Seriously think that in future all rantings from the brigade need to go unanswered. No need to fuel the fire.

They actually hate it and it regularly comes up in several different meetings. The club has been asked numerous times to try and tone it down.

It’s proven to be a very effective method to call them out on various issues, because the News Ltd media also follow and contact them with questions which they hate even more. Especially when it is coming out of inside sources and they don’t want anyone else to know.

There might be both chess and chequers being played in this forum but it is being widely read by all sorts of people.

Was as recent as late last year that Carol came out and asked publicly for all the negative talk to stop. Could only have been in here she was talking about, as there wasn’t any negative reporting in the Addy. That’s good enough evidence to me that they’re well across all the chat in here, and it’s a topic of discussion at board meetings.

She reads it all the time and brings it up at meetings.

I’ve got people from 4 different clubs messaging me with info now and it really infuriates them when the in house stuff comes out accurately. They had a meltdown over the airing of the recent approach to open up the board.

Irony is I spent years challenging them through the correct channels and have cut through much more via a meaningless internet forum!

I wonder if the News Ltd media realise this is all coming from a person that has openly stated in the past that he hopes the league falls over.
