Bendigo FL discussion 2025

I’ve said this before but Castlemaine people (and I suspect the other country clubs as well) don’t share any love for the addy.

We have long memories and the coverage over the years has been incredibly pro Bendigo, and often disrespectful and condescending towards us.

You’ll find very few Castlemaine people shedding a tear at the demise of the addy.
Admittedly you haven’t given the addy too much positive material in the last decade to write about.

At least 4 ex AFL players

Marlon Pickett
Andrew Gaff - I’m hearing is 98% locked in at Kyneton for a handful of games at least.
Sam Darley
Brad Mangan gone to Giants after turning down Gisborne Bulldogs
Cameron Cloke ( yes he’s probably passed it)

5-6 EDFL premier league players

Diggers rest close to announcing 3-4 previous WAFL/SAFNL players

Would there be a time in history that RDFL recruits are significantly in front of BFL during an offseason

God knows why anyone would go near Darley. Absolute lowest of the low individual… I wouldn’t touch him…some of his stories, lies and so called reasons why he leaves clubs are beyond belief…

Cloke not far behind either. Sooked like a baby after an opponent retaliated after him dishing one out and didn’t get caught. Then claimed he would never play football again. Another lowlife…

Both with more clubs than a golf club and give nothing apart from putting their hand out seeking payment…

Not a fan of either and it astounds me anyone would go near them.

How well has this post script on season 2024 from Addy aged in two months?

“Broadford is a lock to join the Bendigo league for the first time, while Maryborough's future hangs in the balance.
Some people at Princes Park say the Magpies will play on in Bendigo in 2025, while others suggest the club's days in Bendigo are numbered for now.
Whichever way it goes, Bendigo footy has plenty to look forward to.
Yes, this season was cloudy at times, but there's sunnier times ahead.
South Bendigo will announce its co-coaches and some recruits next week and the Bloods will be much better in 2025.
All reports out of Dower Park suggest new coach Tyrone Downie has made a super impression in his first few weeks in the job.
The Roos have a long road ahead, but Downie is the right man for the job.
The young talent at Strathfieldsaye and Golden Square has both clubs well-placed to take an extra step next year, while Eaglehawk has some exciting recruiting news to come that will help the Borough challenge the top teams consistently.
Then there's Sandhurst and Gisborne. The league's pacesetters have set a high bar and there's no sign of that bar dropping.
There's plenty of people who like to focus on what we don't have in Bendigo footy.”

Nothing about maine at all, who are the only side who have recruited

It’s curious Castlemaine wasn’t mentioned in the article.
But Castlemaine is the club that can provide the added interest, x Facta, the comp is crying out for. Something different.
If I was involved at Castlemaine I’d embrace that extra attention. Make it us against them (the BFNL board, the Bendigo clubs, the establishment). Adopt some of that language, narrative when talking internally, externally. The punters will love it.
Watch their crowds grow if they get on a roll. Others will sit up and take notice.
At same time you’d be going to Hartley early in season to get a commitment to go again for couple more years.

I’m not wrapped about Cloke being in the RDFL but I guess that’s Wallans problem & they are obviously desperate. I’d be very disappointed if Sunbury Kangas recruited him.

Ok so the latest sadvertiser article says south were on 46 points and have been trimmed back to 43 ? This isn’t the case is it ? They have been on 43 but breeched it and now they are staying the same!!!! Has Cam and westy stopped their weekly lunch at the old green bean cafe ?

Why wouldn’t they report the facts that were extracted out of the BFNL by the weekly times ?

talk about something else instead of this crap
It's a pretty important topic. If what has happened is true, then I would assume people would/should step aside as the BFNL was not run with the integrity it should've been. The natives are restless with Kyneton gone, Maryborough's demise, and the ridiculous concept that Broadford has something to offer the league. Moama is there for the taking, but once again, the lack of direction will see them seek greener pastures and join the GVFNL. It is incredible to see the fall of the once mighty Bendigo League and the desent may not be finished yet. This was once one of the top 3 leagues in country football and it is now lucky to be as good as the RDFL. I for one think it's not crap! There needs to be some urgent action, especially around promoting the league and zoning for junior players. There also needs to be a plan for new clubs to join the BFNL before its all too late.

Spot on. We know heads won’t roll though, as there is little to no accountability for errors made by headquarters.

Well said.

One thing I’d add though is we get the leadership we deserve.

All of us, supporters, clubs etc are responsible for this in some way, whether large or small, because we accept it.

Kyneton used to provide a strong voice holding the league to account at President’s meetings, since we lost that there’s been a definite change in how they operate.

Love the passion mate. I’m the same with the RDFL.
