anyone a bit of a PC guru here?

was looking at the i7 2600k for the CPU, but dunno whether its worth waiting for the new sandybridge e processors that come out in late 2011?

Same.

Whats a rough price for a PC that could run this bad boy at pretty high settings?

Generally (roughly) it will cost $1500 AUD plus Windows 7 OS for the computer tower to $2000 AUD for for HD monitor, speakers, keyboard/mouse and thats not including building costs by the supplier.

This would last for a while without upgrading. for a High end PC

well new products generally comeout in November - January so maybe you might have to wait 2 months after the game comes out. But you should buy your parts closer to the release would be more wiser.

If money is a issue you should get the i5 2500k cpu as its a $100 cheaper and does the same job for games but not other things.

It really wouldnt matter if you get the new Sandy Bridge now or later or the Sandy Bridge Extreme versions as most enthusiasts would overclock both cpus and would get better performance either way on both those chips.

Attached is a guide and I've worked out what I want from that

Case - HAF932
PSU - XFX Black Edition 750W
CPU - i5
M/B - Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD4
Memory - 8GB DDR3
GPU - Gigabyte 6970
HDD - SSD 64GB SSD + 1TB Internal

Don't need Screen/Keyboard/Mouse/Speakers as I have them already so for me it's just the box.

All up I'm looking at about the 1300-1400 mark give or take. But buy the time I get it (Sep/Oct) I'm guessing there will be cheaper and/or different items out.

Check the guide to give you an idea.

This setup will cost you $950, and if you take a few things out to upgrade the Ram/GFX card it will still cost you around the same price.

Such as if you remove the Speakers, Monitor, OS (Use a fake one), DVD Drive (If you have a old one) and the Mouse/Keyboard pack you can save yourself about $300.

If you use that $ and upgrade the Ram from 2GB to 4GB that will cost you $25.

And if you want a really high end GFX card you can upgrade it to this

Upgrade To : 2GB ATI 6970 PCI-E VGA Card +$360

Probably spend a few more $ for that GFX card but there are other ones you can upgrade to that wont cost as much but would still do the job and do it very well.

That place is the only store I go to, to purchase my PC items, everything is dirt cheap and there PC bundles (The one I posted above) are of extremely good value.

Also if you don't like ATI you can swap that with the

GTX 580 which is Nvidias version of the ATI 6970 both are very good Nvidia probably pips the 6970 but the Nvidia costs a little bit more ($508) if that's to expensive go for the Nvidia GTX 570 ($349).

LOUD NOISES!

I pre-ordered this last week. The missus was suitably impressed with the poster I received. She thinks it's almost as lame as my headset.

She just doesn't get me.

Battlefield 3 clearly. Casual gamer (not in the Wii sense, more in the don't own a console but play frequently with friends). Looking at buying an Xbox 360 and this game is the top of my purchase list.

Oh and The Hurt Locker is SOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD

Not really out of their mind..

As you've pointed out, a better GPU is going to set you back.

I would never game on an 18.5" monitor, 2gb of ram is absolutely terrible (ram is cheap, but a lot of people will also get poor ram, which is odd to me) and I'd probably end up spending $200 on a mouse and keyboard if I didn't already own them.

On top of that, often smaller parts will add up, and if your tower doesn't come with a PSU etc, these small things can set you back.

Lastly, depending on what games you play and what other applications you use, SSDs are slowly becoming better in terms of $/GB, but are still far ahead in terms of actual performance.

If I had to include mouse/kb and monitor, I could easily see a new rig setting me back $1500, and probably in the $1500-2000 range (with all those accessories, with a g15 and g5/naga that's going to be $1300-$1800).

People need to consider that a computer will easily last you 3+ years, probably around 1500 days before I tend to upgrade. The difference of $1 a day to $0.75 a day is not worth the decrease in performance for mine, but to each their own.

On this game, if that comparison (THL>Bay) is correct ..:D

As I stated in the post you can upgrade the 2gb of ram to 4gb for $25, you could add more but depending on what you do 4gb should be enough.

Agree, I recently bought a new PSU without the box for $300, but in that setup I posted it comes with a Box/PSU.

I use a $10 Mouse/Keyboard combo and have been a heavy gamer since 1.5 CS, I don't really understand the need for expensive accessories such as Keyboard/Mouse I'd rather spend the extra $ on upgrading GFX card or even a better screen. Each to their own I guess.

Yep, if you're smart enough you can get a top end rig that you put together yourself fairly cheaply these days that will last you a good 3-5 years, Iv'e had my rig for about 3-4 years now and pretty much everything is original, I upgraded my GFX/PSU and RAM last year which cost about $500, but it will last me for another 2-3 years hopefully, I will most likely however have upgrade my CPU, I've still got the Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.00GHZ is a excellent CPU and was top of the range when I purchased it and it is still going strong and I can play pretty much any game on High/Extreme graphics.

On this game, if that comparison (THL>Bay) is correct ..:D

I'm a MW fanboi. :p
