Gael Monfils beating Fritz what a competitor

I had a feeling he’d win, really wanted to go to it but had things to do. Monfils is just such a hard to place player and has such an all over the place game, it’s why he’s beaten some very good players and lost to other good ones.

Issue with Fritz is he’s just pretty good at everything and most of the other guys on the tour are the same. as soon as you go against someone a bit different it’s going to make you adjust your game.

He's been serving around 200kph lately, I think he's going okay.

Yes, he’s going “ok”. He’s a bloke who has got absolutely everything out of himself, and then some. So he deserves great admiration for that. However he is very limited compared to the other top 10 players. He’s a retriever, and just doesn’t have the ability to crank it up a gear, because he is already playing to his limited optimum.

I’m not knocking the guy, I’m just being honest and realistic about where he stands. Having said that, to reach number 8 in the world is a fantastic effort, but that’s Alex’s absolute ceiling.
