Welcome to the Ask an Atheist thread II.

Previous part:

Standard board rules apply.

So a nothing answer.
You guys have issues with experiential Christianity, but no qualms to extol atheism based purely on faith.
That is your call.
So no point asking an atheist a question it seems.
Thread dead?
It's not dead, you are here trying seek validation and utterly failing at it, pretty much like all your desperate efforts of the past 5 years. Atheism is the absence of belief in a deity. Atheists can belief in all sorts of weird things outside of religion. Atheists can spiritual too, plenty of atheists were. Einstein himself said he was an atheist when it came to a personal God.

Why are you this ignorant?

Yet I ask again, if no God, how then do you explain atrocities by mankind, and why the anger at God?
Mankind has killed much less than the God of the Bible who has killed his entire creation (almost), multiple times. From sanctioning rape to sex slaves, to paedophilia, flogging a child, women being inferior etc etc...no matter what we do we can never overtake your 'divine being' in terms of attrocities.

Read your own Bible, without cherry picking. How many atrocities are there in Isiah, the chapter you like to quote when it suits you?? except all attrocities are GOOD when there's a divine hand in it?

I asked you before and i will ask you again, under what context would you think rape and infanticide is completely ok?

Crickets..........again

Yes, my points exactly.
You can not disprove God.

I can't disprove anything that has been imagined by man.

Any claims to the form or creed of supernatural beings such as god are the products of human imagination. They have to be, as the existence, form or creed of 'God' is unknowable.

I live my life without concern for observing the worship of an unknowable god and do not concern myself with attempting to 'know' whatever 'God' is, who is unknowable. Christians can imagine their god how they like and imagine their relationship with it anyway they like. If they choose to regard ancient writings that imagine 'God' as some sort of evidence for their own imaginings, then that is their choice, but shouldn't expect others to believe their claims to truth.

So I'm going to treat with disbelief and incredulity, those who claim to definitely 'know' that there is a god or gods through their own 'experiences' or that they know the 'will' or 'form' of such a supernatural being through the reading of a 'Holy' text or other works.

I neither know..nor care...if 'God', or 'god', or 'gods' exist/s. These figments of human imagination are immaterial to me.
Many mortal men have a yearning for depth in their lives, deeper than the libraries or places you read in, and God fulfills that and is entirely possible.

There is no evidence for the existence of 'God'.
Apart from my own experience, I can of course not prove God.

Why should I take into account your 'own experience'? That is no better than myself claiming to have experienced the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
But by my reasoning, and life experience, Christianity offers me, and clearly billions others, THE BEST and MOST LIKELY explanation.

And for billions of others Christianity does NOT offer the best and most likely explanation. Why should I accept Christianity, over any other creed?
Given that there is a possibility of reality,

There is NO supporting evidence for the existence of God. That you claim 'God's' existence to be true is merely an unsubstantiated claim. Hence I see no reason to believe what you claim.
it is on you to be ENTIRELY dismissive of God without proof, as you can not prove atheism either.

See above.

To rid ourselves of God we would have to lose our ability to philosophise. God isn’t a science question .. it’s a philosophical question.
We may lose our ability to philosophise. It’s happening already with those with autistic traits now been able to make money and therefore attract a mate and passing on the gene. ( you know the drill).
It’s not too much of a stretch to see a future human race with only the ability to do science like our primate cousins.

Merry Christmas everyone. Sleep tight .

Waddya mean? We are ridding ourselves of god through philosophy just as much as science.

The primacy of the scientific explanation for the origins of the world has not rendered philosophy meaningless.

Whether ancient humans attributed a volcano's regular eruptions to a god or to geological forces made not enough difference to passing on our genes to matter.

Doesn't mean the supernatural explanations are right.

Have any of you true atheists considered you are also proclaiming your atheism by faith alone? You can never disprove God.
Yeah sure, if faith is belief without evidence, then it follows that atheism is faith I guess!
You’re right again, strangely, one can’t prove something by its unfalsifiability.
I can’t prove Santa or fairies or demons don’t exist either!

Nonsense, god is a scientific claim.

Have any of you true ATHEISTS ever read the gem of a book by C.S. Lewis- Mere Christianity?

Have any of you true atheists considered you are also proclaiming your atheism by faith alone? You can never disprove God.
Atheism is a faith like baldness is a hair colour.

The default position to any supernatural or extraordinary claim presented without evidence is disbelief. If someone told you that anal-probing aliens are real, would your disbelief be faith or a rational response to an extraordinary claim?

You can't prove anal probing aliens aren't real. You can't prove Essendon won't win the next 10 premierships. You can't prove the Flying Spaghetti Monster isn't real.

The onus is on theists to provide objective evidence and a testable hypothesis for their deity. Since you have failed to do so, the reasonable response is disbelief.

We must have been through this same line of discussion 100 times or more - why don't you understand? Feeling the presence of god, changed lives, roleplaying at church on Sunday doesn't make your book real.
He came to Christianity as an atheist and wanted there to be no God. Hardly an apologetic. An example of a very educated man coming to faith , amidst science, wars, injuries, loss, and personal hardship.
Your mechanistic and hard-nosed replies do not take away from the fact that you are indeed still searching, waiting for someone to prove God- which sadly will never happen in your terms.
I'm genuinely not searching at all, not for god anyway.

It's fascinating how you filter things through god-goggles. If someone leaves Christianity, they must have been hurt and are angry with god. If someone leaves atheism, they found god in the midst personal hardship.

Faith is a losing battle for educated people like yourself. There's a part of your mind that has the tools necessary to liberate you from your cult, and you deliberately push it down through bible study, prayer groups, and being around others who pretend to be living free.

It's fascinating watching the game from afar, and all so obvious now. You ask god for something, then another thing happens and you interpret it as god answering in his own way.

I have a question for you:

If someone was caught in a wrong faith, cult, or wrongful way of thinking regarding religion (even if it was atheism), how would they know it?

You mean we can start loving real people like our own family/friends ahead of fictitious ones? ah such a bad thing!!!

Religion had it's chance for the past 2,000 years and failed utterly at it. Why do you think you deserve more? Religious countries are still at war, today.

And yeah yes, merry christmas, another date/concept/idea stolen from other mythologies.

Very original, all of it.
