We live in some sort of bizzaro world where Dutton can hand out a $420 Million contract to a company with no assets in a shack on Kangaroo Island and then vary the contract without tenders to $1.4 billion dollars - this is the yacht they now cruise around on;

But we are losing our collective minds over the Governor General getting a $214,000 pay rise.

I could have also gone with airport land worth $3m purchased with public money for $30m, Angus Taylor's various family windfalls, Gina Reinhardt giving cash prizes to Barnaby Joyce (yes I know he gave that back - allegedly), yada yada

As usual the conservative media are ignoring everything of note and blowing what is almost an irrelevance completely out of proportion. Gotta feed that angertainment
With inflation going up again and more interest rate rises your bizzaro world is going to get more bizarre when Dutton becomes PM.

Are they though?
Seems they are just anti what labor want to do. (Which seems their only game plan atm).
Renewables, no.
Nuclear, yes.

And based on the news above from multiple posters - wouldn’t Labor therefore be in the same boat - re anti climate change?
neither major party is particularly interested in climate change

nuclear isn't about nuclear its about the fact that it will require decades more fossil fuel burning to build it and it will divert money from renewables

labor and coalition aren't that different I'm not arguing that I'm saying a member of the coalition taking offense at me giving rich people shit is pretty on brand for someone who doesn't blink at the constant racism, misogyny, homophobia etc that comes out of members of the party

Albo is done if we see another interest rate rise. Labours work to keep inflation under control has failed…
And yet again, house prices are the biggest factor in inflation. Albo's failure to do anything of substance about housing will be his downfall.

No he did the HAFF which has spent 10s of millions building nothing yet

It's a blessing for Labor that the Greens made them spend more of it upfront as it will do more to address the issue over the next few years. If Labor can make it past the next election staying in government, by then the Greens will have saved them from themselves.

Because interest rates do very little to combat inflation. Actually the opposite when the majority of the wealth is held in home owners hands, their super/savings go up and they spend more.

Three types of inflation; monetary, demand, supply
It's mostly the first and a little of the latter, the only one the reserve bank can target is demand and this only affects people with recent mortgages. Simplistic analyst but it'll cover it

Younger mortgage holders may well be split or lean right so it's not quite the vote loser many would think

Not really, whilst the ALP has failed in a number (like cutting immigration in areas that are not of essential need far too slowly) of areas, Dutton is proposing nothing and keeps talking about issues other than cost of living. Albo is very safe as thr Libs are unelectable until the moderates (what few remain) get control of the party

Dutton is completely unlikable couldn’t agree more. If the Libs found a half relatable human they’d win easily.

We remain unable to find a happy medium between "toothless" and "ruins careers because you forgot about a bottle of wine".

Then again, elections
Happy to select the ruins career option. Well, at least make it public and then the voter can make the choice re whether the grift is materially significant (in terms of speaking to the character of the politician) or not

I have no problem with the public, being in receipt of the knowledge, making whatever judgment they see fit. In fact, I've been a strong advocate for this being the primary accountability measure for elected officials for some time around here.

But considering we have elections, I prefer the tendency of our justice system more generally prevails with anti-corruption commissions: let a number of guilty people go free before one innocent person is persecuted. No system will be perfect. but if the people, as I said, in receipt of the information, don't like the behaviour of an elected official, they can express that dislike at the ballot box.

With redistributions in draft form in NSW, VIC and WA, there is no way Albo goes before these are confirmed. The arrangements for going to an election with a redistribution underway are clunky at best.
Would it pause the redistribution? Or would it force the redistribution to be announced early (with issues for preselection etc)

I can't the independents that ran in my seat were an antivaxer who said he'd take a gun to parliament to kill the pedos (how he was allowed to run after that...)

A hardline catholic anti abortionist

And a libertarian (the pedo)
No greens or socialists?
