Amazing coincidences in football

Despite playing in 8 grand finals between them from 1971-1980, Richmond have never played Hawthorn in a final, let alone a grand final.

31st of August, 1996 -
Andrew & Darren Jarman play their last AFL game together against St Kilda

31st of August, 2014 -
Matt & Brad Crouch play their first AFL game together against St Kilda

The only sets of brothers to play for Adelaide, and there is exactly 18 years to the day between the two occurences, and St Kilda being the opponents each time
Considering it's the last weekend of the season, it's not really a coincidence to have people retiring on the same day.

1900 Melbourne win premiership..... 100 years later (2000) Melbourne lose Grand Final
1901 Essendon win premiership....... 100 years later (2001) Essendon lose Grand Final
1902 Collingwood win premiership....... 100 years later (2002) Collingwood lose Grand Final
1903 Collingwood win premiership....... 100 years later (2003) Collingwood lose Grand Final
1904 Fitzroy win premiership....... 100 years later (2004) Brisbane Lions lose Grand Final
So get on Carlton to make the GF and lose.

Allow me to rehash one of my old posts.

This post was done in 2012.

Some Melbourne parallels from last year.
When Dean Bailey was sacked last year, he was replaced by Todd Viney who had played 233 games for Melbourne which was also the coach killing score kicked by Geelong against Melbourne.

Melbourne's score of 47 equalled the time in years since Melbourne last won a flag.

In Todd Viney's 233 games, he kicked 92 goals.
Dean Bailey was delisted by Essendon in 1992.

Tom Scully played 31 games in the No. 31 guernsey.

Dean Bailey played 53 games for Essendon, 53 - 31 = 22.
Melbourne's Best and Fairest last year was No. 22 Brent Moloney.

Dean Bailey made his VFL/AFL debut in 1986.
Geelong killed Dean Bailey's Melbourne coaching career in a 186 pointer.

Going back to Todd Viney's career re 233 games and 92 goals, the difference between the two numbers is 141, Neil Craig (Mark Neeld's right hand man) first experienced a 100 point loss in Round 17 2004 when it was Adelaide vs Brisbane.

Brisbane won that game by 141 points.

Another parellel with Brent Moloney's No. 22.

Tom Scully, who wore No. 31 with Melbourne now takes the No. 9 guernsey at GWS and as we all know from prep and Grade one, 31 - 9 = 22.

Round 5, 2013 - FRE VS RICH
Fyfe is unjustly given 2 weeks suspension for kicking a Richmond player while on his back
His return game in round 8 was against Sydney

Round 2, 2014 - FRE VS GC
Fyfe cops the wrath of the Tribunal with the new head clash rule and misses 2 weeks
He came back into the side in round 5 against Sydney

Round 21, 2014 - FRE VS HAW
Fyfe tried to sheppard Lewis off the ball, hit him high and the Tribunal slapped him with 2 weeks on the sidelines.
Have a guess who we are playing this Saturday...

Fitzroys last win was against Fremantle
Fitzroys last loss was at the hands of Fremantle
Fitzroys last game was against Fremantle
Fremantles first ever AFL win was against Fitzroy
Fremantles last two games of 1996 were against Brisbane and Fitzroy respectively - keeping them each to 10.11.71 (We also scored 10.11.71 ourselves in R20)
