Agree.

And I think Harris is only a 70-30 chance at that. Some strong key defenders this year.

No way is Charlie a lock. Had a dreadful mid-to-late season slump.
As good as Sicily and GWS Taylor have been and even Moore to a lesser extent, given how much footy each has missed for a variety of reasons, none deserve to make it in my view. Playing more than 20 games in a season surely has to count for something.

I'm with you on this . We all know injuries are not the fault of the player and just one of the unknowns that you have to deal with. But durability and presenting nearly every week has to count for something to be All Aus.

Which is why I think Daniher has been good to fantastic across 23 games ,kicking 50 goals when he gets up the ground regularly to win clearances and ruck and I'm not sure anyone else in the comp has managed to do that. Particularly to contribute strongly to a team that finished second.

My go at the team >

Isaac Quaynor, Harris Andrews, Jack Sinclair.
Nick Blakey, Darcy Moore, Nick Daicos.

Tim English, Marcus Bontempelli, Zac Butters.
Noah Anderson, Jack Viney, Jai Newcombe.

Charlie Cameron, Taylor Walker, Christian Petracca.
Toby Greene, Charlie Curnow, Kyle Langdon.

Errol Gulden, Lachie Neale, Jordan Dawson, Josh Daicos.

Sub- Connor Rozee.

Not sure if they even pick a sub.

I haven't seen a lot of some of the players so more going off the commentary... the vibe on a few.

Joe in for Langdon as the relief ruckman is an option if they select the side as though they are going to actually play a game.

No to quaynor, Anderson, Newcombe and langford imo. Errol and Dawson start on the field too. I'd have Sicily in the backline.

I'm sad to predict either 1 or 2 only. Charlie a lock, Lachie did enough the last 2 weeks to get on the bench. Harris should be in but won't make it, and Larkey's 9 against gold coast will prevent Joe from making it.

Will be funny in hindsight having the Brownlow medallist on the bench

Yer I think Lachie will be selected because there is a chance he could win the Brownlow.. look a tad odd if the Brownlow Medallist was not in the AA side.

when i was watching the carlton v gws game on sunday evening i saw them try send harry mckay into the ruck due to pittonett being out. they probably wanted to see if they could afford to omit one of their rucks in finals if mckay was a serviceable enough chop out for de koning

to be blunt - he was awful. uncompetitive in the ruck itself but his work after the initial ruck contest was where he really hurt carlton - absolutely 0 second efforts and basically walked off as if his job was done after trying to compete for the tap

what was interesting however was the commentary team referring to mckay as playing the 'joe daniher role' i think its a testament to how good a year daniher has had when the commentary staff are treating his name as synonymous with the forward-ruck. comparing his performance on the weekend to mckay's, its well deserved from daniher to be being spoken about in such a manner

Can’t remember which AFL journo I heard saying it but they said Joe should absolutely make AA for that very reason alone, that is, if you were actually naming a side to play, Joe would play as most teams don’t name two rucks and it’s not like Curnow, Walker, Larkey etc would perform that role yet Jo does.

I still don’t think the selectors will pick him even tho they should.
Tim Watson - had Joe on the bench in his team, on basis that he was picking a team that would actually play. If they pick 2 ruckmen (English/Marshal), Joe won't get in, he only gets in as the hybrid FWD/RUC

If they do pick pure wingmen this year, McCluggage is entitled to feel rip-off!

I feel like the fact we don't have any clear locks despite finishing second (maybe Cameron) is probably a good reflection of our season. It's been a relatively balanced contribution with no consistent dominance from anyone.
Totally agree with this - how often has Joe done the team thing rather than selfishly try to add another ten or so to his personal tally. Does ruck work and spends time up the ground. If they look beyond just number of goals kicked he has to be there. But our spread is pretty amazing

Their selection (rather than prediction) has us getting three - but Daniher in instead of Andrews, where I'd expect the inverse.
