AFLW Rehab Report: Round 8

The latest injury news ahead of the GIANTS’ round eight clash with the Hawks.

Young gun Kaitlyn Srhoj will miss the final three games of the season with a knee injury.

The talented 19-year-old injured her knee in an incident in the third quarter of Sunday’s game with the Crows at Henson Park, with scans revealing damage to her PCL. The West Australian will work with the club’s medical team and rehab over the off season in preparation for a strong 2025 AFLW campaign.

Fellow 2023 draftee Indigo Linde will continue to increase her modified training following a calf injury and is aiming to join in team training next week as she looks to be available for selection for round nine.

Defender Cambridge McCormick is also progressing well from a syndesmosis injury and is also aiming to join in team training next week.

Meanwhile Annise Bradfield (knee) and Aliesha Newman (knee) will both face fitness tests ahead of team selection on Thursday.

The GIANTS will take on the Hawks at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Despite our stirring first quarter, a comprehensive 24 (3.6) to 61 (9.7) defeat in the end to the Hawks. After the first quarter, we only scored 9 points to the Hawks’s 48. Our last home game against Fremantle is next week, so hopefully a good crowd and a better result.

A number of GIANTS will look to prove their fitness to be available for selection in Saturday’s Indigenous Round clash with the Dockers at Henson Park.

Rebounding defender Cambridge McCormick and 2023 draftee Indigo Linde will both return to full training this week as they push their cases for selection.

McCormick returns to full training following her recovery from a syndesmosis injury, while Linde ramps up her training in her rehab from a calf injury.

Irish ruck Eilish O’Dowd will also look to prove her fitness this week after coming from the field with an ankle injury late in Saturday’s clash with the Hawks in Frankston.

Forward Georgia Garnett must also get through training to be available to take on the Dockers on Saturday after copping a knock to her torso in the second term against the Hawks.

Meanwhile Annise Bradfield has entered concussion protocols and is unavailable for selection this week after sustaining a concussion in the club’s scrimmage match in Melbourne on Saturday.

The GIANTS will host the Dockers at Henson Park on Saturday afternoon.

GIANTS Celebrate AFLW Indigenous Round with 2024 Indigenous Jumper

The GIANTS’ AFLW side will wear the club’s 2024 Indigenous jumper for the first time on Saturday in celebration of Indigenous Round.

The GIANTS’ AFLW side is proud to wear the club’s 2024 Indigenous jumper for the first time on Saturday as we celebrate Indigenous Round in an exciting clash with the Dockers at Henson Park.

First unveiled by the club’s AFL side earlier this year during Sir Doug Nicholls Round, the GIANTS’ 2024 Indigenous jumper will now be worn by the GIANTS’ AFLW side in celebration of Indigenous Round.

Designed by proud Gomeroi man Kayleb Waters, the GIANTS’ 2024 Indigenous jumper is called Maaluga Ngarriylanha, which means ‘sitting as one.’ The jumper tells a story of unity and the leadership the GIANTS take in reconciliation and moving forward as one.

It was designed to represent the opportunities the GIANTS provide to communities from all backgrounds and religions, including First Nations people, and their efforts to maintain relationships and connections to culture.

A 25-year-old storyteller from the Aboriginal community of Walhallow, Waters is an artist, a cultural mentor with the Gomeroi Culture Academy, a member of the Gomeroi Dance Company, and also facilitates cultural workshops and cultural wellbeing programs across New South Wales.

Gomeroi country extends broadly from the Queensland and NSW border region to Tamworth, Aberdeen, Muswellbrook, Coonabarabran, and Walgett. Walhallow is a village in the north-west slopes region of NSW, near Quirindi.

Featuring an artistic kangaroo/bandaar inside the trademark ‘G’ on the front of the jumper, the sacred animal symbolises the strength and patience we need as a nation to move forward as one. The circular shapes and linework displayed on the jumper represent all of mother earth’s wisdom and knowledge and connection to country. The orange circles depicted on the jumper, which represent people gathering and sitting as one, symbolises the communities the GIANTS have impacted with their initiatives and the journey as one to maintain the survival and nourishment of our country.

The tracks and grids featured on the jumper symbolise the path the GIANTS are taking with local communities to build connections and relationships as they overcome obstacles to maintain a journey as one.

The GIANTS will wear their 2024 Indigenous jumper on Saturday at Henson Park against the Dockers in celebration of Indigenous Round.

but seriously, Henson is not where I think we should be playing the Sydney aflw games - I don’t know why our club didn’t want to play a couple of AFLW games at BISP?

Another comprehensive loss as Fremantle (Walyalup) beat us 55 (7.13) to 25 (4.1) at Henson Park. With a probable loss to Port in Adelaide in our final match next week, we will end the season with a one win (and 1 draw) season in 2024. Very disappointing after our 72-9 mauling of the Bulldogs to start the season :-(

Seems Saturday gets a better crowd compared to Sunday.

Makes sense especially for those of us travelling from the Western suburbs which is about an hour and I'm not even that far west so for others would be more.
