Fumbler, obviously you've spent a fair bit of time thinking about alternative comp structures. But I don't get why you want to go breaking down 100+ years of history, tradition and culture by changing clubs' colours/guernseys and names? It's like me suggesting to you Richmond should become the Golden Stripers. Existing clubs have established identities and established supporter bases, so there's no need to reinvent them. Just work on getting the competition structure right.
I've got my own ideas on competition structures - but haven't found a workable solution yet. Any comments on this I'll find the appropriate thread to add my 2 cents worth.
I think you'll find i only changed a few club names and most of those are reasonbly new clubs, and when you are talking about 100+ years of history is that the GWS team or Fitzroy or the Brisbane Lions or Sydney or Essendon being a part of East Melbourne or Windy Hill or the Airport? Nearly every club that is currently involved in the AFL has had some sort of change whether it is thier name, colours or grounds they played on. History will always be a part of the culture within the AFL but if it is to grow further within the Australian borders and expand to overseas markets professionally, something like this must be attempted to bring all the hundreds of leagues Australia wide under the one banner.
Even the AFL has changed it's apperance over the years, from it's headquarters to it's name and lets not forget them old white umpires uniforms.
