AFL to trial 'Sports Ear'????

I would prefer the next stage of this technology, that after hearing an umpires call on a decision, fans can collectively decide to give, or not, the umpire a small electric shock, based on the quality of their decision.

Surely this sort of immediate feedback is what umpires want and need.

Only if I can give the same shock to every voting fan who clearly got it wrong once we see the replay.

Fair enough too Can we then enlarge it shock cheer squads behind the goals, if they are putting off a player kicking for goal and he gets the goal

Also would like to include ability to shock Collingwood cheer squad, for non reason whatsoever, as surely most fans would join up just for that

Got one yesterday and loved it. Humanised the umps a bit as I could rely on their explanations before reacting to a free. I will say however, the howlers infuriate me more now. When you hear an explanation that is blatantly wrong, its even more frustrating. For example, a free against Quentin Lynch in the ruck yesterday against Roughhead when the ump stated "two actions" made me lose it when the replay showed that there was not 2 actions.

We'll be able to hear the umpires baiting the players before they report them!!!

We might have heard umpire Carey call "mine" before he took that mark.

We might have heard Diesel say "Piss off out of my way" before pushing the umpire!!! lol
I'd like to hear the AFL tell those prancing ballet dancers to shut the **** up and don't aggravate footballers who are already fired up for battle, also I 'd like to be able to hear a player say you mongrel are you blind to an umpire and not get a 50!
I like to hear the umpires have a joke or a wise remark in the game to players that is non offensive so they learn that they are not robots just adjudicators , to remind them that half a brain would tell them that antagonising people while they play a very aggro hard fast sport is stupid, (remember that mongrel Goldspink) I think I would have punched him in the face, poncy fool that thought it was all about him.
And helped cause the brawl with Essendon by patronising smart arsed remarks.
Actually I don't want to hear the bastards at all.

Bumping this one.

Curious to find out if anyone been using these SportsEars in stadium over the last few years?

If the umpire channel feed was able to be delivered in real-time (no delay) over a stadium app, would this be useful?

Was really good listening to the umps during play, you got to hear their communication with each other, most of the time when a kick was paid as deliberate one of the other umps would say that it looked deliberate then controlling ump paid it and the banter of the players around ball ups and when disputing a decision there were some great back and forth.

Sad that they won’t be continued going forward

I used them whenever I went. They're pretty great but, I guess unsurprising if you think about it, it's mostly an out of breath umpire catching their breath. They are handy. I do remember listening to one of them having a quick spew somewhere on the ground.
Great idea.

Can you pick up the channel on a scanner?
I was under the impression they ran on the FM band, but slightly outside of the usual band you'll find on an average radio.

I bought a military communication phone from Aussie disposals as you can tune the wavelength. Difficult wearing 20kgs on your back all game though. Also security these days seem to think my backpacks a bomb because it's camouflaged - dumb ars*s.

To be fair if you've got a 20kg radio strapped to your back in the year of our lord (2018) I can't help but feel security have every right to assume it's a bomb.

I'm pretty sure it isn't that difficult to find personal radios that can reach just outside of the usual bands for private use.
