Death, taxes and Carlton wearing their home jumper away to Collingwood. Will it ever change? You'd have to think it'd be annoying for players and commentators as much as it is for the fans.

There's no good reason for it to continue; fans will forget about any loss of 'tradition' after the first instance of a clash jumper (see: Essendon v Richmond).

It's another illogical decisions by the department of illogical decisions at the AFL.

The crazy thing is when Carlton played away to Port Adelaide once and Port wore the prison-bar strip (i.e. near identical to Collingwood home), what did Carlton wear? A white clash strip.
That’s the thing, the list of who these teams clash with (or don’t contrast with) is pretty much identical. There’s no logical reason why the AFL doesn’t enforcer a clash jumper here. Can’t be tradition because Collingwood switched jumpers in 2001, can’t be that there’s adequate contrast because that’s not the case, so I don’t get it at all. Also the irony of the case you pointed out is that they wore that clash jumper when it had that dumb navy patch at the back that made it look near identical to the back of the prison bars, yet nowadays they aren’t wearing it in a matchup that would look great.

On a similar note, because I know they do against Essendon who don’t in the reverse matchup, would Collingwood be wearing the clash jumper in the reverse matchup? Can’t quite remember.

Predictions for this round, always knew the first game would pan out like this so this is what I had.

Cats in the Ford jumper, couldn't be bothered making a graphic for that
Gold Coast 1A.png Adelaide 1A.png

There's an off chance the V with red shorts would suffice, but this is the more sensical matchup

I would've initially guessed St Kilda in the candy stripe, but they wore this kit against the Crows so I'm guessing it's their go-to away kit rather than the candy stripe, and that gets worn in a clash. Whatever the case, this is a delightful matchup

Nights like this lay bare the tokenism behind AFL House’s so-called commitment to inclusivity.

Honestly, the white shorts are working for me; it's not compromising my viewing experience. But it's a genuine accessibility issue. We're in 2025.

Yeah for some reason tonight isn't as bad as usual for me, maybe because I'm watching in 4K and the gameplay is fairly slow. But it's still unacceptable in this day and age.

No chance that the Swans will wear the Red V against North, plus I wouldn't be surprised if the Saints wear the tri-panel with white shorts as it shouldn't clash with Port's retro

I'll never understand why this doesn't get more media attention after the game. If you had the AFL footy shows talking about how bad this was, it would start to put some pressure on the AFL/Carlton to do something about it. It's always radio silence somehow.

It is starting to get talked about more

I was listening to the game on Triple M whilst driving to work and their commentary team was going nuclear about how bad the clash is

Adelaide and Gold Coast isn’t dire, but would’ve been good if Adelaide used their Gather Round jumper. Can’t imagine they would’ve wanted to use it before Gather Round itself though.

Surprised white shorts weren’t used either, would’ve actually helped a bit.

So way back when Port were wearing this jumper the player issue jumpers had the side panels and the retails had none due to the different cuts of each jumper. Fair enough I suppose. Now in 2025, despite the player issue and retail jumpers not having proper side panels, they’ve printed them onto the retails and not the player issues. Can’t help but lol.

It's like watching an old Ansett Cup match! Bit of fun, I suppose (although at the moment it looks like SK are playing for the cup & we're using it as a practice match).
I liken it to the sort of jumper matchup I’d use in AFL23 if I didn’t default to putting Port in the PBs any time I play as us
