Reckon Bews plays next time.
I could certainly handle him making errors rather then the pathetic shit from Enright, Taylor and Kelly tonight but I'm sure Scotty will continue to roll out our prehistoric dinosaur defense the rest of the year with Mackie there too to worm burn all his wide open kicks to our forwards.

I know we lost the game but we were very much in this match for the first three quarters and a half. All without our champion fullback and an elite midfielder in Mitch Duncan as well as putting up with dirty umpires continually screwing us.

I honestly couldn't be prouder than that effort because most expected a 10 goal plus loss. Sure we lost by 36 odd points but there are many positives to take out of the first three quarters for the future.

I'll take a 6 goal loss to Hawthorn any day.

Look the negative is I hate losing to Hawthorn and that win gives them top 2 which means they are pretty likely to win the flag. But the positive is if we play like we did tonight for the next 3 weeks we will win them all which will probably get us into finals.

In terms of the game I thought the lack of a small defender really cost us. Enright was immense (boy I will miss him when he retires) but when we presed up hard and left space over the back we lacked someone with the footspeed to get to their smalls. Bews didnt play vfl today so I assume he was injured, but it would have been good to have him.

Save for goalkicking we played better than I expected, if we had nailed those 4 shots early in the last quarter we really could have had a chance. The good signs for me are that the younger players in Motlop, Guthrie, Murdoch et al are improving and playing much better than they were early in the year. Even Cockatoo really showed some glimpses tonight and I thought Horlin Smith was very good, showing why he shouldn't be sub.

There is no margin for error now, we have to win the last 3 and hopefully we will. The reality is we are playing as well now as we can with what we have. We are short a decent contested midfielder to help Selwood (the gap from him to our next mid is immense, I know Duncan out magnified that but still) and a ruckman, the number of times tonight we didn't even have a ruck compete at the stoppage was too many. This is why I am an advocate of getting even a decent ruck in this offseason, that and Dangerfield I think will give us a genuine chance against the best teams again. We are starting to improve our contested ball issues which shows both the players and coaches are realising the problem and rectifying it, but we cant go to the next level of beating the top teams until we improve the midfield and ruck area of the list. Big pity Stanley is injured as I genuinely think we could have made a tilt at a flag with him fit, and we still may win a final if we get in.

For sure, mate! There were a lot of positives to take out of this match. Mitch Duncan out was HUGE.

Know it won't happen but what I would do:

Out - Kelly, Stokes, Murdoch.
In - Bews, Gore, Menzel.

Know Kelly won't be dropped I just want to see how the setup would look in defence with an actual small defender.

Menzel's time is now. Know Murdoch won't be dropped though as MC loves him too much, so that's why Gore won't play but still Menzel in!

Cockatoo & Horlin-Smith I hope keep spots now!

Would also like Gore to make his debut & come in for Stokes but very unlikely.

Not expecting Duncan to be fit but don't know how long he is out?

Come on down youth!

Selwood supurb

Johnson was very good again not that he will get any kudos.

Guthrie good game.

Motlop and caddy didn't step up like we need them too.

cocky some great plays. Should persist with him next week

Gregson needs a rest.

Stokes is about gone.

What happened to playing Bartel in the middle this year? Back in defence against hawthorn. Did we learn anything from the 2013 prelim?

Lang was not bad.

Time for the Menz next week?

That was frustrating, we definitely had our chances. I really think the margin should have been alot closer. Apart from our brain fade in the first quarter and thier accuracy in front of goal (fkin tinasses) there wasn't alot in it.

Some shocking umpiring especially against Joel. Those misses in the last quarter were very poor we had it it inside 50 so many times in that last quarter. Backline was looser than a $5 hooker tonight.

At least the boys fought it out well and we have some great inclusions to come back in like Menzel and Duncan. God I hope we can make the finals.

Ah well, we had a crack. Hawks too good and they had all the luck as well.
Missed Duncan. We take our chances and we can just about match them. We need to be at our best and we need a bit of luck-didn't really have either tonight. They got 5 goals maybe from dodgy frees. And several from our mistakes, so all in all, not too bad. Way better than Round 1.
Will get them next time. The young guys will be better, some of the oldies gone. Good effort. Coaching wasn't the difference tonight-just a superior team but we could have been closer. Go Geelong, pretty happy.

Stokes is done and it's actually ****ing disgusting that he's getting a game anymore. You would get more out of any other player on our list aside from Smedts. That is my main take-away from this game. It makes me furious. The result; **** it whatever.
