Re: AFL 2nd Qualifying Final - Geelong v St Kilda, MCG, Friday 3 September 7:45PM

same could be said of the saints earlier with their missed chances but 1.7 in the last is the downfall bad luck guys... hope use go all the way again my old man is a geelong fan I just told him the score he is shattered...

Re: AFL 2nd Qualifying Final - Geelong v St Kilda, MCG, Friday 3 September 7:45PM

So shattered for Moons, he tried his absolute guts out tonight and for most of the game looked like the only one who was giving his all.

Re: AFL 2nd Qualifying Final - Geelong v St Kilda, MCG, Friday 3 September 7:45PM

So sad right now. Hopefully we can really come out with a burning desire against Freo/Hawthorn.

I hope it's Freo. I don't mean to be disrespectful to them, they've been good this year and got us earlier on but Hawthorn are a much more daunting finals side for us and Fremantle in Melbourne seems much more winnable.

1.7 wasnt to bad considering 3 or so were rushed and one was a selwood torp, and lings hit the post from the boundary, but wet footy does that

Re: AFL 2nd Qualifying Final - Geelong v St Kilda, MCG, Friday 3 September 7:45PM

We might not like that final free (was probably there) but Cats needed to play a much better first half. It was then that Saints won it, let's face it!!
We had our chances. Ling hits the post, Stokes misses an easy one. Varcoe misses one on the run (since when does Varcoe miss??) Ball slips from Abletts hand at the wrong moment. Gee soooo many.

Re: AFL 2nd Qualifying Final - Geelong v St Kilda, MCG, Friday 3 September 7:45PM

Frankly Mooney missing the open running shot in the first quarter still has me on tilt. His ball drop on the kick was pathetic, like something out of a Scott Gumbleton how to **** up a kick manual.

Re: AFL 2nd Qualifying Final - Geelong v St Kilda, MCG, Friday 3 September 7:45PM

well done maggots

can we expect this one to request a lap of honor like Scott McLaren when he's finished.

The game was ruined by them well before tonight.

He did kick a some difficult ones after that. Im a Mooney basher, but not tonight. Tonight Im more appalled at Scarlett and Selwood and Hunt and Ablett and our better players first two and a half quarters costing us the match

True. Such a close margin makes you reflect on the missed chances.

However, if the free hadn't been paid and we had won, saint would be ruing the early miss by Riewoldt and the other shots they missed early on.

In the end, we were behind by 33 points at one stage. Our defense got dominated early on and we looked really reluctant to put on pressure. We did it late in the game but we just couldn't let them get that lead.

Well, Geelong did get a goal that was probably touched, had a poor first half, then kicked 1.7 in the last quarter. I would think they should blame themselves first

Well done Cats

You made Footy More enjoyable for the other 14 teams By losing tonight
and Collingwood winning tomorrow night (i think pies should win easy) you will have to play Collingwood to get to the Grand final (if you win next week which you should easy do) and you hopefully Beat Collingwood to and knock them out of them out.

Well done you have made my Night

Go Cats and Bomber Thompson

Can't let a quality side get that sort of lead. That was the problem, not a dubious umpiring decision or a missed shot.

They strangled us and we couldn't cope. We can expect more of the same if we play them or Collingwood again.

Re: AFL 2nd Qualifying Final - Geelong v St Kilda, MCG, Friday 3 September 7:45PM

That was a game worthy of a final. Excellent work by both teams.

I think for large portions of that game we played as well as we can. There is a lot of upside for you guys as Johnson, Selwood and even Ablett were almost invisible at times. When they all play like they can then it might be different.

But hey, we'll take it. Good luck next week against....Hawks probably.

We came back. We owned the second half; they the first. Why do St kilda somehow deserve the game when we dominated the second half?

That was a crap decision. And it was bloody obvious.

Re: AFL 2nd Qualifying Final - Geelong v St Kilda, MCG, Friday 3 September 7:45PM

Hey Mods, can we have separate pre-match and post-match threads?

I feel gutted, especially since I'd thought we'd won it. It's going to be tough to get the GF now, let alone win it!

Out back 6 were getting smashed in the first half, and we couldn't get it out of our defensive 50. We were really lucky StK didn't blow us out of the game.

Harry was we and truly beaten by Riewoldt, (I wonder if Lonergan would have made a difference). Joel Selwood couldn't get into the match and some of Mackie's turn-overs were atrocious. In some ways we were lucky to get so close. (betcha Hawthorn think they have us beaten already)

Anyone still think Stokes is not in our best 22?

Because they gained a 33 point lead when they dominated. We didn't.

so where to from here?

hawks/freo next week?

Prefer Freo, but would love the Hawks actually. I can see some positives despite going into the hard side of the draw, tell me Collingwood arent shitting themselves right now.

They are all at the match. Give them time to get back.
